After some crappy weather with blowing dust and a light rain I got the Dart washed and all cleaned up.

Now I get to replace the in tank fuel pump in my Sons girlfriends car.
Been broke down in my driveway for a week waiting for the new pump.

I try to stay away from other peoples car problems, but sometimes they frickin come to you.
And no, no one else here can do it.
Sometimes it feels like the only reason I exist is to fix **** for people.

Is there a trap door in the trunk? Many cars do and it sure makes it easy.

The access cover is under the rear seat bottom.
I have had the pump assembly out and tested already.

Well at least it aint a pick up. I did one on the Dakota (mini white whale) and it turns out it's easier to remove the bed---if you have a hoist--than to pull the tank. The pickups are similar.

The old Cummins when I bought it had been dealer? updated to an in -tank pump for the transfer pump, and when I did the 4wd conversion, I put an aftermarket one on the frame. So at least I don't have to worry about THAT thing.

Pickups I usually unbolt the bed then lift the side where the tank resides & prop the bed up with a 2x4 standing on end on the tire & contacting the bed inside the wheel well...

Is she a good cook? She's gonna owe you a meal, whether she cooks it or takes you out to McDonalds...

I absolutely DESPISE in-tank pumps.
I threw away a nice car when the second pump failed, (or was it third?) and when the pump failed in my Z28, I was quoted $1800 to replace it. (Step one, remove entire rear independent suspension.... )
It's been sitting as a result for years. I'm gonna cut a giant hole in the trunk to access it, just haven't done it yet.
She'll owe you a LOT more than a meal, or twelve.
I would happily strangle the asshole engineer who decided this was a good idea.

Yeah, how do you change a lift pump on the side of the highway 2000 miles away from your shop when it’s under the f****** bed of the truck that has a gooseneck…..

#1. And you're complaining about this job?

#2. Why didn't you just replace it then?

#1. Not complaining about the job, but the fact that I am the only one that knows how to fix ANYTHING around here.

#2. The part needed to be ordered.

Anything else I can help you understand?

Can you help me learn Swahili real quick?

Son is unable to help? At minimum he should spend the time watching (and possibly) learning. Just tell him the two hours spent watching was like earning the $300 he saved

Ya gotta start training them young...

The driveshaft, parking brake cables and exhaust must come out, but the front of the IRS is dropped just enough to slide the tank out. Still a ridiculous amount of work. Compare to a modern challenger or charger with easy access under the back seat and no draining.

I trained a sibling with changing the clutch on his Eagle Talon TSi, awd. Once he was bleeding pretty good, I finished the job for him.

He was there through the whole process, as was his girl.

I think I'm throwing in the towel as far as side job/helping out. Put a blower motor in a 2013 Nissan Titan a few weeks ago (distant relative), took 15 minutes. Backed it out of the garage and parked it on the street. The next day it wouldn't start. Had power to the fuel pump but it wasn't working. Replaced fuel pump and it still wouldn't start. Spent countless hours testing wires, etc. Finally towed it to a friends shop to have them deal with it. Still feel terrible (thinking it has to be something I had done while installing the blower motor). Even the simplest job can create a nightmare.
