Oil recommendations for a 340 Duster?

Do you have to buy Amsoil straight from them or do other places carry it too?
They use a local dealer system. Find your local dealer and order through them and they will ship it to you. The only place I have seen where you can buy direct is at some decent sized car shows and a vendor may be there.

I also run 87 so take it with a grain of salt.

Really like driven, the 10 30, HR2
Much prefer it over the Lucas hot rod oil I used to use several years back
I've had two bad experiences with Lucas Hot Rod now very recently. One I am unsure if it was the oil, but the other I am 100% sure it was.

i've read that you don't want to use an additive in oil because you don't know how it will react to the oils additives.. just buy the proper oil is my opinion...
It also has an effect on the weight. Say you run a 30 weight. You dump in an additive and now "what" do you have?

My grandpa was a firm believer in STP and motor honey back in his day.
He use to flip me **** saying if your gaskets ain't leaking ya ain't making any power. lol He was an old GM mechanic in the 40's to mid 70's.
He had a fast 68 and 71 Malibu, grandma's was the 68.

I'm currently running Brad Penn 30wt oil. Now it's called Penn grade I believe. Used VR-1 in the past very good oil. I have a case of Shaeffer 30wt oil to try. All if these have zinc.

70AARCUDA (Tony), who is now a legendary member, had multiple 10 second A-bodies that he and his kids raced. He said it many times, he bought the regular cheap Mobil 1 and added ZDDP to it. Ran it in all his race cars very successfully. Way, way too much is made of this kind of topic. Give it oil with zinc of some sort, and a filter of some kind. Unless the op is making 750 hp at 8800 rpms with his 340, it isn't going to matter much.
Again, I've used VR-1 with a mopar 090 on my small blocks for years without issue. One stop at walmart and you have it all, and it's not expensive compared to some that's being mentioned.
  • On a side note... sit down and breath slowly... my Dad ran Fram filters for over 60+ driving years in every one of his cars (and I mean a ton of cars!!!!) and never had an issue. In fact, I cannot ever remember him losing an engine, and just about every one of his cars were used cars (all but 1). And the mercury and truck he left behind had frams on them... lol. Mercury over 180k miles. But he always changed his oil/filter promptly.

Yours and many others including mine and all our offsprings, I'm not sure but I think I might have a walmart filter and tech 2000 oil and a jug of STP in the 73 Power Wagon

But the internet and this site will tell you that if you have one on your car, shut it off and coast to the side of the road...... you might save your engine this way... :D :D
