Hey guys need a little help please. I just picked up a 80s 318 short block fresh from rebuild but I need to put on a set of heads, lifters and push rods from a 75 318 engine. I need to know if this is a straight swap over...new gaskets slide in the lifters and push rods and bolt back on the rockers. Have yet to do any:-s head work so I wanna make sure i get this right. Please let me know if I am missing anything. Thanks for any help!

Yes it is. So long as the 80's 318 has a hyd. cam.

Get the MoPar engines book so thes basic questions will allready be answered for you.

(OMFG!)

excuse me!

You gotta be Fu^&in kidding me right... wait, let me finish with "Go screw yourself you dumb ***."

Not really sure what your issue is dude. I ask a simple question looking for help and you insult me.... What exactly did you mean by "OMFG!" did this change meanings at some time?

And just so you know this sentence.. (Yes it is. So long as the 80's 318 has a hyd. cam).. did not show up in your first post until you posted again....Maybe you see why my impression of your comment! Now that I see that part of your post ...Thank you... even though you called me a .....Well lets leave it there

He didn't call you nothin. Your just pissin him off. Oh My Freakin God is what I read and justly due to the reason of such a basic question that should have ben a known before your at this point.

Go get a book and start reading! (Lazy *** mo-fo!)

MoPar engines book
How to hot rod or rebuild my S/B MoPar would be good as well.

(*** wipe!)

Okay... So I have not built engines before but I do know a bit, I was looking for simple tips to get this right. Like do I need to lube the cam shaft further than the the original rebuild did, rocker arm adj. , issues that may arise match newer reman. block to older heads.... Somehow I thought this was a forum for all to learn and share. If you do not want to waste your time answering than don't.. And I do have the books and I have read but they really do not cover my particular issue..

As far as lubing the cam, white lithium grease on the lobes and lifter feet, engine assembly lube or cam lube on the journals and bearings. I think the rockers just torque down to specs. If running a hydraulic tappet with adjustable rockers, usually zero lash plus one quarter turn. If you order a new cam or any new valve train parts, the manufacturer will be able to answer any specific questions you have. I have not personally mix-matched old/new blocks/heads, but most of that stuff is interchangeable. Sorry to read you're not getting the support you came for on this forum. I'm kind of disappointed with the reception you got here. Don't get dicouraged, there are a lot of helpful and knowledgable folks on this site. Read as much material as you can get your hands on and you will get to a point where you can answer your own questions. Good luck with your build.

Sometimes answering such basic questions gets tiredsome and ridiculous since YOU should KNOW what your doing when your rebuild an engine, first time or not. Rumble has been here a long time helping MANY people and mostly new guys like yourself. And you jump all over this guy in a flash. Nice, real nice.

Camshaft question;

If your rebuilder did it right, then no. Since I can not see the issue, more lube will not hurt. Do you know what a oil pressure priming rod is? Get one, insert in drill, insert in oil pump, turn to turn oil pump and send oil up and through out the engine before start up. Have a freind turn the crank while the drill is going. This helps against dry start up.

(Is that clear enuff for ya kid?)

Adjustment issue;

The lifter has .080 play in it. Have your heads been milled? Then there's no worry.

Cylinderhead issue; Direct swap. (Ya book tell ya that one? It should have. If it didn't, throw the Chevy book away)

We all help and share here, to bad your a thin skin baby ready to throw in the towel on a OMFG in "( )" to be taken as, like a sigh, off the record, besides the point.

You should look in the mirror before bashing this forum. The real issue is you.

He'll get good and deent help here if stops jumping around like he did. IDK what he thinks OMFG means. Bu to start shoving crap at rumble was crappy to say the least.

Thanks guys...Sorry for ruffling feathers just don't like being talk down too. We all started somewhere and need help once in a while.. Thanks again

Like was said, as long they are both flat tappet cams you're fine. If the cam is brand new, you need to use a cam break in lube... It's sold in paste and liquids... I like the paste from Crane Cams myself. But coat the lobes and the flat bottoms of the lifters, but not the sides. I use white lithium for most other points - rockers to shaft, pushrod ends, valve tips, etc.

I have no idea why a question like this is stupid. It's rookie, yes. But the critical responses convey the wrong message. Tech help is help, not abuse. Even when the questions are newbie.

I'm confused, I thought that the tech section was for asking tech questions. Maybe f8 read the book and didn't understand it, maybe he just wanted to clarify.
