Old HP magnum 383-440 cam???

Off hand, I'm not sure. I remember seeing a page on this somewhere. The cam can be purchase new but MP doesn't provide the specs or timing events with it. Just a centerline to find.

I saw a dyno test on a 383 magnum somewhere on the net and I can't find it now, it made 335hp mopar did'nt fudge the numbers... I'm just doing a little cam research for my 383, just wantin to see what level will work best for me, using the 383 magnum as the baseline starting point and moving up...

MoParMuscle did that. Resto to rad I think they titled it.

i think the real duration was something like 212/218 @.050 with a lift of 455. that was on a 115 lsa. i'm using a Vodoo 220/226 @.050 475/495 112 lsa in my near stock 383 RR very very nice cam.

They did fudge the hemi and the 71 340 to the low side.. LOL

Picking a cam is harder than picking a woman... Ya don't know if thay suk or not until you've already spent a ton of money on em'... I'm talking about the cam of course...

I'm wanting to run a tunnel ram on my 383 with 2-500 edelbrock carbs, I'm kinda leaning tword this Comp Cam- 284-291/.484-.484, rpm range-2,300-6,300. intake @.050-239/ exhaust @.050-246

thats a big cam on a small 383, i would use it if your CR is going to be 10.5 or more.

EL5Demon,
They did NOT fudge the numbers on the Hemi and the 340.

Hemi was rated at 425@ 5000 rpm and that was about right.
Of course, if you looked at the rest of the dyno sheet you would see that it made a bit more up around 6500 rpm.
The 340 was rated the the same way.

You may be right about the 425hp @ 5000, but you gotta consider that chrysler "de-tuned" the Hemi to come up with that figure...

if you are being cheap, use a summit cam and timing chain. i went 12.30 with one with stock heads and 9.2:1, i think it would have went in the 11s with a looser converter, i only had an 11" holeshot. the roller chain held up great when i did a cam swap it was still as tight as the day i put it on.

I would run less duration and more lift....but call comp cams and tell them what you are doing and they will help you decide..you see the lift of my cam in my signature and the duration is only 230/236......lift equals more power...

Here is there oem replacement for 383.....21-212-4 is the cam part number...206/206 is the duration..425/425 is the lift.....for the 440.....21-213-4 is the cam part number...212/212 is the lift.....440/440 is the lift...comp cam catalog page number..42

The reason I posted the cam I did was because, in the Mopar engine book, here's what it says:

"Mopar Performance's muscle car camshafts are exact reissues of the original Mopar muscle car cams, not regrinds. Kit contains camshaft, oil, tappets, and instructions."

"P4452783 High performance hydraulic camshaft and tappet package for 383 and 440 4-BBL. engines, 268-284-46 *, valve lift .450/.458, centerline 115*."

This means that camshaft came in Mopar engines from the factory, just like their reissue 340 cam. So, what cam is this, if the ones yall are talking about are the Magnum cams?
