In a psychological sense, these proclamations support and bolster the ego. We all do it one way or another.I’m not being hostile. I asked questions and made my statement people don’t like to address. I won’t apologize for it. In a nut shell, I ask again, why do people feel the need to announce they quit (fill in the blank) or found Jesus? Why??
Regardless whether you believe it or not?Do we praise those that never started? No we don’t. So why should I/we praise those that quit, which they fully known it was destructive?
ill try and answer, and I may be wrong but someone who quits especially booze (alcoholic) needs a support system. Maybe the OP wants/needs a bit of affirmation that he/she is doing good. even if it is from the internet. It helps them stay "clean and sober" AA will tell you god or a higher power helps also. op wants someone to say "good job, good for you" and it motivates them to keep going with it. Its too easy to fall off the wagon. i know some may not understand but then again some do. OP if If i am way off I apologize this wasnt aimed at you directly mainly a generalization of how people may need support to stay clean and sober.I’m not being hostile. I'm not religious, but there is one thing I am sure of..."there are no atheists in foxholes"AA will tell you god or a higher power helps also.
My goal is forever. Good on you. Been 8 days for me. Heavy hitter. I'll quit counting soon I hope. Listening to my body and it says its happier. How many days? One more than yesterday.
Alcohol effects people differently some become addicted, some do not. One person can live their entire life as a "healthy drinker" meaning they have one,two a day and walk away, some fall under the spell where it ruins them. Its a fragile situation for some. Alcoholism as a disease is progressive and the final stage is death. indicators are blackouts, acting foolish in public, getting in trouble, lose job, wife leaves failing health etc. bad thing is for some when the wife says they are leaving, they are so caught up in it they dont care...in all reality its good for the OP he has realized he needs to quit, hopefully before any of the negatives I mentioned. Some never realize its the booze ruining them.Do we praise those that never started? No we don’t. So why should I/we praise those that quit, which they fully known it was destructive?
One of the physical indicators near the end of my tenure with ethanol is that it took a long time to sober up. If I drank Saturday, it was Sunday afternoon to reach sobriety. Monday I felt lifeless and inert. But I ignored it until I developed sepsis and my organs started shutting down. Talk about a life changing event. Too bad the body isn't designed to deal with this shenanigans.indicators are blackouts, acting foolish in public, getting in trouble, lose job, wife leaves failing health etc.
Question......why do people who quit or stop something that society has deemed “bad”, seem to let everyone know that they quit? Same can be said for “born again Christians” “bible thumpers”. Why do YOU feel the need to tell “us people” that you quit drinking, smoking, drugs, found God? Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s great that ya quit whatever you were doing, but I nor the rest of the world really care. Not bring insensitive, but you started whatever habit you had, now I’m, we, supposed to pat onya the back and say that’a boy?

It was the person that started whatever addiction, then say they are clean/sober found God, well good for them. I don’t want to hear it. And i especially don’t want hear some recovering addict or born again Christian saying that “you should find God or quit (fill in the blank). How about this instead, you quit your addiction or found God, great! Now keep it to yourself and move on with your life. Don’t preach to others that what they are doing is “bad” or that they need to “accept Jesus in your heart “. How much of that quitting alcohol abuse, or drugs did the taxpayer provide? Give ya hint, more than you’d really like to know.
So ya got off the sauce, great. Now have a coke and smile and shut the **** up! You quit smoking, great, STFU! You found found Jesus, great! Put a bumper sticker on your car. You stopped using drugs, outstanding, STFU!
Agreed. We sober people are kind of a boring support group for one another. lol. Don't want to hear about a guy getting sober and bettering his life? Scroll on. Geez.....It’s encouragement for those who want to quit. It’s not easy. We don’t need your approval or anything else.
YR, I’m a grown man, don’t assume otherwise.
I asked why, so ya got sober, you found Jesus, you quit drinking or stopped using drugs.......why does anybody care? You did that to yourself, for whatever reason(s). I’m glad ya stopped, but don’t expect a congratulations or parade. I’d be more open to hear that ya stopped (fill in the blank) and just said that ya stopped. Personally I don’t care if ya been sober for 7 days or 7 years.
