Paint Dash with windshield in?

I have a '67 cuda notchback needing paint. Can the dash be properly painted without removing the windshield? I'd rather not remove it, but if necessary it will come out.

sure it can. mask best you can. get a long handled holder for a single edged razor blade to get rid of over spray you will no doubt get on the windshield glass. that's what I do. I use the razor blade to clean over spray off all my window glass. danged if I remove the glass to paint!!!!!
 
I would remove it for more reasons than just the quality of visual finish. There isn't any paint on the underside of that dash. Might be a whole lot of rust too. Painting the majority of that white makes everything under there much easier to see. I wrap white tape around most of the harness connectors too.
Then there are a half dozen service procedures to do that will be a heck of a lot easier to do with the dash out. Do it right and you may not need to see anything behind there for a very long time.
 
I've done more than a few cars BOTH ways. if there might be rust under the windshield, yes it should come out. new England car or west car??? then on most models, the whole dash can easily be take out. then you can work on the instrument cluster/wiring e asily for sure.
taking out the windshield , depending on model, can result in ya having to buy a new gasket. $$$$$. can you remove and install the windshield or have to pay the glass guy?? how much time do you want the car apart. how long does it take you to DO the stuff under the dash with it out?
is it to be a "show poodle" or a driver?
like removing ALL the glass to paint. yep the resto will do that as they charge ya $80 / hr????? for me, taking the qtr glass in and out is always a major PITA !?

when it comes to some jobs on these old cars, what result are you looking for??? ans, are you results oriented or " anal retentive"?? ha
 
Thanks to all for responses. Interesting idea to paint underside of dash white - did that to bottom of a drag car years ago for working underneath at night meets. Anyway, I don't have any problems with dash area or windshield, just want to repaint car. So may try without removing windshield.

Another point inspired by anothers post.. If this car still has its original windshield, take it out without breaking it, then put it back in a fresh painted body. You'll wish it had broken at removal. I was very surprised by how much better a new piece of glass looks from inside and outside. This wasn't a fresh paint either. Just reseal.
I did try to remove it without breaking it , chit happens.
In the end it was good chit that happened.
 
You will most likely still have an edge paint doesnt get to up in the corner of the dash, at least I do. I plan on hitting those areas with a q tip, otherwise it will be there until a windshield replacement is due...
