hi fellas, im going to buy a rebuild kit for my 727 but want to make sure of the year, ive looked at the lists of #s on the net but cant find mine. hope some one can help. i cant see any numbers on the pan rail as it was painted but i got these from the case 3410963. i bought this from a guy that got it from a junkyard. thanks

ok i scraped the paint off and came up with this :
PK 2or could be a 3 as the bottom of the # is gone then 63105 4207
4699 please help , thanks

The part # 3410963 given in the first post is probably the correct number if read properly. The other numbers are production dates and/or codes. Unfortunately part #3410963 isn't listed on the Mymopar forum list and I don't know of any other list of part numbers. It jumps from 3410779 to 3496935. Those 2 numbers come back as a late 70 application so I guess it's possible it is a 70 or 71. The rebuild kit would be the same for either except the design of the front clutch piston lip seal. There was an early and a late style (wide or narrow seal). If it were me I'd order the kit for a 70 and if the seal is different you should be able to buy one from NAPA for just a couple bucks.

BTW: Make sure the kit you get comes with a full thrust washer set and a bushing set and clutch plates and steel plates and both bands. Allot of kits are called rebuild kits but only contain about half (or less) of what is really needed to do a proper rebuild. Kinda like pulling the heads on an engine and having the valves ground and putting it back together and saying it's rebuilt which is isn't.

thanks for that info. i started tearing it down today and found out i need a bigger pair of snap ring pliers to get the rear shaft bearing and governor off. tommorrow im off to sears to see what they have. after i unbolted the valve body i was expecting to see a spring for the accumulator but i is gone. im wondering if this trans. actually worked or did someone take parts from it. i bought it from a friend and it was bolted to a 440 that supposedly came from the junkyard out of a motor home but its working condition was unknown. maybe the spring is not needed. im looking on the web for rebuild kits and there are a lot of choices. ill take your advice and get a complete kit.

UH ... you need to take the front pump assembly out next. The snap ring for the output shaft is inside all of those parts that are still in the case ... you can id the year of the tranny by looking at the casting date on the valve body ...

I have a trans that everyone keeps telling me its a 727 the only numbers i could find were (pk4028406-5806-0678) any help would be highly appreciated

All big blocks are 727 and yes that is too. Make sure you get solid bands not flex and as stated about a complete overhaul kit not a refresh kit.. Most important you need to replace al lthe lip seals in the drums, you will need a compression tool for the forward drum too. Also make sure your end play is within specs as is each clutch stack.

I think somebody above mentioned it but I'll mention it again. www.bulkparts.com is about the best place to buy trans rebuild parts. They have good stuff, great service, cheap shipping and can't be beat on prices. At least I can't find any cheaper.

BTW: You can i.d. the year of the trans. by the stamping on the valve body as long as somebody hasn't changed the valve body sometime before you got it and put in a different year VB.

Sometimes there isn't a spring under the accumulator. Sometimes there's one under it and sometimes there's one on each side of it. All depends on what application Ma Mopar built it for. Did it have a piece of round rod spacer under the accumulator? If so somebodies probably taken out the spring and installed the blocker rod to make it shift harder.
