Hello all, my second post here. I've been screwing with Pontiacs since 1983, my current ride is a 65 Grand Prix with a 467 stroker, T56 six speed and 4.10 spool. But Ive always admired the 60s -early 70s Mopars. Recently my cousin died and I bought his 67 Barracuda with a slant six and 904 trans, just to keep the car in the family. Part of the deal was also the 2006 5.7 Hemi and 727 he was going to put in it, and I'm now trying to see that swap through. I've read you can put a 727 together with a 3rd gen hemi, but the 5.7 crank has a 1.33" pilot hole, and there's no way a 727 convertor will fit in there (1.55 pilot, I believe). What am I missing here? Will no factory stock convertor work? Aftermarket only? Any suggestions? Pic of 727 input to 5.7 crank, and the engine as it currently sits. Long way to go.

Um, putting the auto trans input shaft into the pilot on the crankshaft tells nothing.
Kinda like sticking a pencil into a paper cup and saying see, they don’t fit. :D

That pic was taken during a test fit of trans to block, just to get a quick visual of input shaft alignment and depth. I discovered later on the pilot hole diameter problem, when I started looking for convertors, which is yet to be resolved. Any suggestions? As requested, pics of my 65 GP, and I forgot to mention earlier, I also have a 58 Chrysler Saratoga, has the polyhead 354.

Dude, that GP is gorgeous. Is the engine 455 based?

Thank you sir, its been many years in the making. Engine is a 1970 4 bolt main 400 block, .060 over, 4.250" stroke Ohio forged crank for 467 cubic inches, Eagle rods, Ross pistons for 9.5:1 comp, custom grind hydraulic roller cam, Johnson lifters, ported Edelbrock heads, Harland Sharp 1.7 rockers, 1-7/8" headers, 3" X pipe, Ultraflows and 3" tailpipes. Spec level 3+ clutch, T56 trans from a 94 Viper, and slightly narrowed 63 GP 9.3" rear end with Mark Williams 35 spline axles, Strange spool and 4.10 gears, its a freaking BLAST to drive. BTW here is the 67 Cuda, still running on the good old slant six, and overall, she's a bit rough for now.

Nice! I'm a slant 6 guy myself. I have Vixen, the world famous 64 Valiant. lol

The 5.7 has a ring pressed into the crank register for the car NAG transmission. Weld something to it and slide hammer it out. With that ring out, it is the size you need for the convertor hub on the Torqueflite. Done it a hundred times. Do searches in the Hemi Swap section. Lots of great information. Welcome aboard, great looking rides, and good luck on the Hemi Swap!!

Do you know what exhaust manifolds those are? Are there part numbers on them? They look like they would work well in the engine bay.

They are the car 5.7 manifolds. They do not fit our muscle car platforms.

I remember the days of helping a friend build his 421 SD motors for his race car, this was way back in the late 60's. Damn, I'm old now LMAO

I had a 71 T-37 when I was young. Then ended up with Mopar nor regrets. They were inexpensive old used cars back in the day. WE thought theyd be around forever...:)

If I recall right my cousin bought the exhaust manifolds thru Rockauto for a Jeep application, after hearing they should work in A body. They do seem to stick out quite a bit at the flanges though. Also, got that adapter ring out of crank last night. I'm wondering if a rear sump steel oil pan for a Ram truck application will work too?

Negative. Rear sump won't work in an A Body. You'll need a swap pan from Milodon or Holley. Remember the pick up too.

Thanks for the pictures. By the part numbers, they are for cars 2009 and up. They turn down nice, but I'm thinking the width will hit the shock towers.

Being a cheap SOB, got a 2006 Ram truck steel oil pan and oil pickup from Rockauto, $85 for both. After some careful measurements cut the sump off, reversed it, and painstakingly welded it back on in the center. Pickup is about half inch above sump floor. Big PITA but it should clear everything, even the slant six K member. Got the truck dipstick and tube as well, it just clears the new sump, although I had to make new low and full marks on it, calibrated for full with 5 qts in the pan.
