i am needing ideas for wheels for the cuda. i have thrown around the idea of
15x8 cop wheels with 255/60r15's, but i notice that a couple of people have 67-69 cudas have 275's without changing suspension. they are running lower profile tires, but how much flex will i get with a 275/50r15? i might even go with 17 inch wheels too. maybe paint the centers of some AR daisy 200s rims.

All the cudas I've seen (a bunch) HAD to move the springs that was running 275/60/15. I wouldn't feel to comfortable about having anything less that a 1/2 inch between the leaf spring and tire.

With a low-profile, stiff-sidewall tire like Modcuda's, you can get away with 1/4" clear to the springs. A generic 50-series will be more tolerant of minimal clearances than a generic 60 or 70-series, so that needs to be accounted for. For a 275/50, I bet anything greater than 1/4" would be fine if you kept the tire pressure at 36 or so.

And burnouts are easier to do with 36 psi in the tires. :toothy7:

I ran 60 series bias ply tires back in the day with about 3/8 inch clearance to the springs. I'd get little shiny spots on the sides of the springs but never heard things rub. I had air shocks, too. That probably helped a bit.

i think it is narrowed down to 15x8 cop wheels with 4.5 inch backspacing, and a 255/60r15 bfg t/a. does that sound like the right backspacing??

i am going with wheel vintiques. they still take 4 weeks, but they don't need my current centers.

have coys wheels. size is 17x7 4 1/2" back spacing 5x4' bolt spacing. hankook 225/50/17 tires. tire od is same size as orig so you don't have
to chg speedo gears. no clearance problems at all. really look tough.

just ordered the wheels from wheel vintiques. 15x8 cop wheels with a 4.5" backspacing. they won't be here for 3-4 weeks though. i ordered 2 of the bfg t/a's in 255/60r15 and will pick them up monday.

Does anyone have or know of a 17" rim with old ford or mopar bolt pattern. I thought it would be cool to find a spare i could actually fit in my 64s spare tire sump without comming up out of the hole. I was thinking a new mustang might work, any ideas? Something like this one below. These kinda spares are small enough to fit in the old 64s hole I think. I think a 17x7 regular rim would be too wide.

I have a ford 16" sitting in my 67 now. It does not come up to high without interfering with the trunk divider that lets down (fastback). The 16" was easier to find.

not mine but damn they look nice! i think some of you guys have these too

Front: 17" x 7" 5.5" backspace (same as mustang) 245 45 tire. Torque Trust II rim. I think I could of gone one size bigger but its close without trimming the front fender edge. Tire looks a little thin.

Rear (stock spring location): 17" x 8" 5" backspace This is a CUSTOM ordered backspace!!!! from American Racing. Tire is a 255 50 and I think its the limit.

Front

Wheel Brand and Size
Brand is unknown, maybe NZN?
Size is 17" X 8.5 with 100mm X 5 lug pattern
Backspacing is 6.5 inches
Tire size is 205/50 R17 Kumho Ectas
Suspension is stock 10" drums with 4" X 5 lug. Converted to RH thread
with 2" wide adapter/spacer between wheel and drum to get back to 4.5 inch backspacing.

Rear
Same wheels, drums, and adapter/spacers.
Tires are 235/45 R17 Kumho Ecsta
Suspension has Mopar SS springs, offset 1" hangers, and Monroe air shocks.

I have good clearance all the way around and no rubbing. The ride and handling is good. There is no problems with balance, the spacers were done by a company online for 200 bucks (the wheels were free..)
I wouldn't recommend burn-outs or high speed driving, but I don't do that.
I will go back to 14" rims if I can ever find reasonably priced original mag wheel covers like what came on the car from factory.
