150-200 bucks?
i am not sure
i had about the same # of pieces powder coated for my daytona(intake, valve cover, oil pan, thermostat housing, some bracket) and i believe it cost me 180 bucks canadian.

I paid $125 for my k-frame, steering knuckles, lower control arms, upper control arms, and idler arm. If it is all the same color it is much cheaper. They usually clean the parts for you anyways. That shouldbe included inthe price.

It all depends on the color, all three components the same color will run in the $150-$200 range.
I was quote $250. for 4 ralley rims (basic silver).

now that we're on the subject, what are the benefits of powdercoating? How well do the home use guns that companies like eastwood and craftsman work?

That's something I'd like to know, as I was looking into that as well.
I found that the prices for the guns was to $$$, but as far as baking goes, I had a good oven. How much are the guns from Eastwood and Sears, I was looking at more of the industrial line.

The home kits work fine.

You really need to clean the item well and have an oven to heat it up. I'm going to look around for an oven that is being thrown out in a remodel. Cheap way to get an oven that you can't use to cook food in again.

That's what I have, a nice Olive green one, works great, looks like s...

Thanks for the props SureGrip391!!! The kind words are sincerely appreciated Aaron.

Hey DareDevil Pete, I'm Leanna, owner/operator of Phoenix Specialty Coatings and a member of this list for a few years now (one of the quiet ones) with a 68 Barracuda Fastback I've owned and restored since 1991.

As most of the guys said, the colors you choose have an effect on the final price. But the prep work -- especially on aluminum -- is what costs you the most. How clean the parts are when they arrive is a big factor ... you'll pay more just for cleaning 3 inches of road gunk and grease off an oil pan than you would to get a brand new oil pan coated from start to finish.

Assuming your parts are disassembled and clean as you said and don't require any repairs, the $150-$200 estimates the other guys have given you are pretty accurate.

But tell me something ... do you really want a Gloss Black intake manifold???

Larger local operations tend to talk customers into coating everything black because they aren't too keen on stopping their assembly line to clean the gun for a color change and don't want to be bothered by having to order special colors. Most of their time is spent coating chassis, frames and other large parts people don't always inspect too closely. They often lack the attention to detail they should have in my opinion. Your parts come back orange peeled and full of sand or glass bead (just ask your rear end builder), the threads have overspray and make crunching noises as you ratchet them on, you need to grind cured coating out of your bolt holes for reassembly ... lots of horror stories out there. Generally, they shoot it and get it out the door without any regard for quality control or customer service.

Being motorheads and restorers ourselves, we take pride in our work down to the smallest detail ... if I wouldn't put it on my car, then I wouldn't ask you to put it on YOUR car. We've got over 6,500 COLORS and a huge variety of finishes and textures to choose from (casts, veins, translucents, metallics, wrinkles, and even cured powders that look like leather) that you really won't pay that much extra for. If by some small chance you can't find exactly what you're looking for amongst all of that, custom color matching is also available (for a fee). I've included pics of a couple samples here but there are lots more on the website. Open your hood, use your imagination ... and realize that you can now affordably customize your ride!!!

Everyone, please feel free to give me a call to discuss your particular powder coating needs. I guarantee that you will not be disappointed with either the price, the turnaround time, or the quality of the work.

Now that's what I call great work and dedication.
Too bad you guys are half a continent away from me.
Looks to me like you'll be hearing from "daredevil" shortly.

With the price of gas these days to drive across town, even international shipping costs are pretty attractive!!! LOL

Thanks for the kudos Butter! I love what I do and hope it shows.

I'll definately keep your info handy, who knows, my little sister is living in California, I might end up using her as a pond.

Nice work Leanne! I'll keep you in mind if I need something intricate powder coated. I recently had a dash powder coated and had to tap out all the threaded holes and there was some orange peel. Like you say, most everyone is capable of doing a frame, but high quality work that would be worthy of an interior is impossible to find here. I wish I would of known about you then.

Thanks leanna I have already been hosed. Charged 300 bucks to pc and everything was new.Its orange but I thought it was high.Guy even said he did me a favor that that was barely material costs. I,ll keep you bookmarked for next time.

Thank you RamCharger!!! That's always nice to hear!

The main difference between Phoenix Specialty Coatings and Joe Blow's Powder Coating Shop is this: I KNOW restoring a car is an expensive task (I've been workin on my Cuda since 1991 and it's still not finished LOL), but I also feel you should NOT have to sacrifice quality work to stay within your budget. Craftsmanship is a lost art these days and I'm doing everything I can to keep it alive and affordable. Though some of my clientele (including pro builders and tv personalities) don't care how much the bill is, most of us don't have the luxury of an unlimited budget.

I will tell you right now that my prices are equal to or less than those the repliers have posted for the work they got done. I'm not in this to get rich or retire before I'm 45 ... I'm here to help you finish your car or motorcycle in the way you always dreamed it would look. Believe me, you won't have to go without eating for a week in order to have a custom, one-off job!!

DareDevil Pete, I'm sorry that you feel you got 'hosed' by your coater. Please keep me in mind for next time. [By the way, Chrysler Orange powder doesn't cost any more than Gloss Black (duckin and runnin now LOL).]

P.S. Sorry about the huge pictures ... can't figure out how to resize 'em.

i have a more than likely stupid Q, can you powdercoat fiber glass? or only metal things? reason i ask is id like to do a set of fiberglass bumpers with almost chrome.

i don't think the fiberglass would hold up to being baked
correct me if i am wrong please

No, you can't powdercoat fiberglass. It has to be able to withstand 400 degrees for a half hour to cure the coating.

re: the fiberglass bumper. There was an article in one of the Mopar rags recently about a guy who is chroming fiberglass parts. Apparently he puts on some "special" metal-based paint on first which allows the copper and the chrome to stick.

GTX, pot metal can be done. But it can be costly depending on how damaged/pitted it is and what color you'd like it done in.

Leanna,

Is your site going through a transformation right now. I went there looking for pricing info but it looks like there might be some changes happening to it. Anyway, can you quote clear coating an Edelbrock cross ram (2-piece) intake manifold for me? TIA.

GTX, the website is relatively new ... it just became operational in early October (and is wayyyyy better than the old one ever was). The Pricing/Shipping tab is the only section that isn't finished yet.
I'll send you a PM about your cross ram intake.
