Project Hole In The Head - 1970 Duster 340 Resto-Mod

More block sanding today. Getting closer. Will probably finish this round of blocking tomorrow and then shoot another coat of primer. So far, only found two or three spots that need any filler/glazing putty. I forgot how tiring this crap is on your arms and shoulders. Getting old sucks.

Cleaned up the shop a little yesterday and then removed all of the parts from inside the car to start on the floors. Floors are not bad at all. Only a few small rust holes and a little bit of scaling. Floors are still really strong so applied some ospho and let her sit over night.

Moving right along. Cut out the rust. Welded in some new metal. Filled and seam sealed. Sanded the entire floor down with 80 grit to remove and scale etc. Getting ready to shoot some primer after I feed my face a little.

Laid down some color this afternoon. The floorboards are tintable urethane spray-on bedliner. Trunk floor single stage urethane. Hoping to have it more or less ready to shoot by next weekend.

Going to pull the fenders off next to line up the doors better and then maybe shoot the engine compartment while the fenders are off. We'll see how crazy I go once the fenders are off. Not sure if I am going to shoot the inner fenders and outer frame rails or not. Probably will...

you may know already but a tip for when masking an engine bay is use kitchen aluminum foil for masking pipes, wires, cables etc. basically awkward stuff. you can scrunch it tightly round stuff and if you've ever had to unmask parts like that before you'll know what a pain it can be if it's all done with tape. even things like a wiper motor, steering box or servo/master cylinder, getting paper to wrap tightly so you get maximum paint coverage around them is fiddly so foil is good there too.
neil.

Yes, I have done that numerous times. I am actually going to drop the k-member and remove the suspension next. So there will be nothing in the way to worry about when I shoot it.. Planning on doing that and then really cleaning the inner fenders and frame rails next.

I used Goo Gone Automotive to soften up and loosen my factory under coating. Had to spray on and let sit, repeat.

It seems the site is having issues with pictures today. There are several posts where members are claiming they can't see uploaded pictures. Ain't working for me either.

Same here. I’ve uploaded some in a thread. Saw them. Then they disappeared.

Dropped the K-member the other day. I plan on cleaning up the rest of the doghouse area over the next couple of days and hopefully shoot some color in the engine compartment and inner fenders over the weekend. Might also redo some of the welding on inner fender bracing.
