A little rewind on the fiberglass doors:

I bought them used, and they were about an inch short where they meet the pillar.

Had to cut some strips of aluminum, rivet and epoxy them into place:

Then grind and glass:

Little bondo to finish out:

Post above shows where they’re at today…same stuff, different flies for the driver’s side.

The weight savings in the doors and lexan is enough to offset the 8.50 (4130) cage…main reason for it all

Wow the car is looking good in primer, that's promising.
How in the world does a door get shorter ?
Were they both like that?
Very cool....you way ahead of me lol

Now rewind on the trunk stuff (sorry, hadn’t posted this stuff…some people like me like seeing it, keep scrolling if you’re not like me :p )

So. Much. Rust. Had to cut a lot out:

I have to imagine the person I bought them from had to grind them down to make them fit…I don’t actually know. Main reason I used them was that they were cheap and had the factory latching and rods and stuff in them. Law of sunk cost…probably would have been faster to get new ones from Unlimited, but I’ll never know at this point:eek:

One will never know, lol.
Cool to get glass doors for cheap even if you have to do some work.
I wish I can remember how to do glass work, I went to a plastics / auto body occupational school when I was in highschool.
That's probably why I can't remember.

I think we’re pretty close in age (I’m 42), and like you, I don’t remember much from high school. I’m fortunate to work with a guy who used to work in a body shop for his dad. I contribute with the rough work, but he does all the final stuff. He’ll be doing quite a bit of glass work grafting the bubble on the hood and cleaning up the front fenders, which were new from Unlimited…but need quite a bit of cleanup!

Here’s a mock up/wishful thinking from a while back with the bubble in place (will be cut down closer to the throttle bodies and trimmed tight to the windshield)

Ya, we don’t stop having fun because we grow old, we grow old because we stop having fun…or something like that

Estimating 2750 with me in it (I’m about 215 in race gear). Shooting for low-ish 10’s up here with the 420 small block I’ll put together when the car is ready to receive it (have all the parts, machine work is done…just don’t want it sitting on a stand since it’ll probably be a couple more years until the car is painted, wired, etc). Hoping to get back on the track and run the street legal classes, then the 11.50 class (our super street with NHRA derate for altitude) after I get a handle on the new setup.

Yep I think that was Malcolm X who said that....no that was something else lol
Shoot that's flying where you are in near earth orbit.
I hope you can get it done before a couple years.

Are you going to be welding on your tunnel ram???
Just kidding, I only know 1 dumbass that does that for fun.

My philosophy is, "I may grow old, but I refuse to grow up!", and YES I still play with blocks.
