has anyone wired a push to start in there a-body to give it a little modern touch? if soo lets see your pics and how you did it!!

Just to actuate the starter would be easy. The button would just connect the yellow "crank" wire to +12 V, the same as every car thief learns in prison. But to start, you would also need the ignition already powered, which you could still do with the key.

If you want both, the push-button would have to also actuate a latching relay that powers the ignition.

Just so you know, a "push to start" feature is FAR from modern. lol

Still need to turn the key on to unlock the steering wheel and turn on ignition. Might as well turn it that extra 1/4" to start.

39 Ford, bottom left of the panel. I don't know when this might have started, generally. Also Ford MAY have been the first car with a "locking column". My Gramps old 40 Ford did that

Had a big "dog" the key moved into the column to lock it and the toggle. My Gramps car, I never ever remember the key being removed. It was in the lock, taped there, always

Back when I had a 63 Beetle ( same as Herbie ) , push to start was common.
