I have an original MT floor shift 1970 Duster and I'm converting it to a floor shift automatic/ with console. Can anyone tell me if factory opening in the floor hump for manual transmission is the identical as the automatic? Thanks

You will need a patch panel from a console shift car, including the console brackets, and a new carpet
Then you will need to pull the carpet out of your car, and remove the floor-shift hump, and weld in the donor part.
Back in the 60s they used to sell an auto shifter that bolted onto the tranny and put the stick through the floor-hole. I haven't seen one in over 45 or 50 years.

This is kinda the same question I have also. I have all the shift linkage and brackets from another car, but how do I know exactly WHERE I am supposed to line up the shaft going through the floor...or am I just supposed to cut a big *** hole and then put the "boot ring" around it to seal it up? FYI, mine is a factory column shift auto.

There is a at least one thread here somewhere, with measurements. Maybe more.
Otherwise it should have been indexed and marked prior to removal. But then you already knew that.

Thanks for the info, I'll do some research further on this. This is my first A body and I have only had it for a month now. the person I got the car from had been amassing parts from the late 90s and was no longer alive when I took possession so I don't know very much about what it is I am all left with .

I'm going the opposite direction. (plan on keeping all the parts in case I change my mind) If you need any measurements or pictures let me know.(not sure if the measurements would be the same as my 69 dart) I had welded the hole shut for the automatic shift rod a while back. (Was using a b&m ratchet shifter) so I'm not much help there.

Based on all the pics, it DOES in fact look like the shift boot was mounted and then the inside of the hole was just cut out to allow for whatever placement needed to happen.

On late A bodys, the cutout is marked when they stamped the floor piece. On 66 it is harder to get correct.

http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...ww.ebay.com/itm/CONSOLE-AUTO...item1a0ad9cabe this is what I have, what I don't know is where the stem that goes through the floor ties to. I'm sure the linkage from the trans swings around 180° to connect to the shift linkage, but I don't know what holds the bottom of that shaft steady. Do I just have the wrong shifter for this car? Any assistance is definitely appreciated. I saw those two holes in the floor but in guessing those are for the B&m shifter

OK, so I wanted to say thank you for all the measurements that were provided here, they are helpful. I'm now running into a different issue, the console doesn't sit straight on the tunnel and if I get it straight, the shift linkage for the AT shifter goes into the floor at a steep angle and doesn't want to allow for enough tolerance or clearance to function properly......Would I be best to switch to an after market shifter to make the console line up straight?
