rare shot of M. Monroe..

Her life showed truth is stranger than fiction. Her life was messed up from the time she was born. Many don't realize she was considered one of the great actresses of all time. Nice to see her looking really happy in this photo. Thanks for sharing.

What would that engine be ? 2 opposed cylinders..looks like a drive shaft coming out the front. Too small for an airplane,.. carb on bottom or top ?

Hell, it could be an outboard motor.. :) some of the early models were kind of strange looking..

I did a bit more searching and found this "Norma Jeane worked at an aircraft and parachute-inspecting plant named Radio Plane Munitions Factory, where she inspected and painted planes."

Just did a little google'ing....

The owner of the place Norma Jean was working was a past movie star. He was friends of the Army Publicist Commanding Officer that sent over the first photographer of Norma Jean.

Guess who that Commanding Officer was??

The Commanding Officer was Ronald Reagan.
And here's a pic that shows that engine was an aircraft engine - in fact, it was a small engine for remote controlled target aircraft (the first mass-produced UAV or drone manufactured in the United States) being assembled at the Radio Plane Factory in Van Nuys, California.

Here's a pic of the drone. Radio Plane built 15,000 of them during WWII.

Now that's a bungload of coolness right there.

..and here we thought UAVs were a new thing...my dad once said that there was nothing new out there, just recycled or improved ideas of the past..

..how true..

Thanks guys for fleshing this one out..stuff like thi should never be forgotten..

A long time ago I had a motor that looked alot like that.
It was an opposed twin 2 stroke and it was out of a Maytag gasoline powered clothes washer.
I wonder if Maytag used the same engines after the war?
