Rear end fluid ??

I use Redline also, 85/140. I think they also have 75/140. It was sooooo good it quietened some slight coasting whine in the diff. It comes with the FM already added; so no need to try & guess mixing quantities for an
Hmmm
I get coasting whine
Kinda trust Redline too.

I just sucked gear oil out of 8 3/4 and refilled with 75-90 synthetic with Limited Slip already in gear oil. Now I get mild popping around corners. Its an Auburn Pro cone sure grip. So now I have to suck some oil out and add limited slip additive. I usually use what ever additive local auto parts store has and its worked in the past.

Its a good idea to suck gear oil out and refill cheap preventative maintenance. Especially with the cone sure grips metal to metal surfaces.

If a basic rear (not Sure-grip), I doubt the gear design in a straight-axle pickup has changed since the 1960's, so whatever Chrysler specs today "should work". I understand the OE oil into the 1960's was actual Whale Oil, as was Type A auto transmission fluid. It sure smelled like it when I replaced the axle bearings in my 1965 Chrysler.

I've never understood why people think they have to reinvent the wheel with everything. I've removed some rear axle covers that I KNOW had never been removed before and still hat the original conventional 80w90. Everything looked great. Why on EARTH do people want to stray from a formula that works? As long as there's no leak, you'll likely never have a problem. Don't wast your money.

RRR,
People use newer products because they are often better. There have been several iterations of Dexron trans fluid as an example. In post #13, I switched from mineral oil to synthetic & got the results noted. Elec ign v points is another example....

Does the Lakewood LSD stuff still exist? That's what I was using in the '80's & early '90's, haven't looked for any in a long time.

In my race cars I use Redline 75W-85W full synthetic, but on the street just good ole 85w-140w gear lube for me.

Better than what? Something that lasts 60 plus years and is still good? Yeah, I'll take that same stuff, thanks.

Yet You missed Your opportunity in post#14, slacker......
I took the high road....

There is so many different fluids out there that you could use. I don't think there is a lot of differences between them. Use what you think would work best. i recommend just changing the oil frequently so you could inspect for wear. Lets be honest the hole point of having a classic is to work on them and take pride in your ride
