Hey guys I just have a couple of questions. My 74 Dart has an 8.25 rear in it, open carrier with 3.21 gears. I was wanting to put a Sure-Grip unit in it, I was looking at the Mopar Performance pn#P4529273 unit. I was also looking at different gears maybe. But who makes gears? Would that be something a rear end shop would have? I know we use Richmond gears in our Legends cars, would they make something for it? I was wondering about 3.55 or maybe 3.73. Its not a car that goes to the strip just a street car but would like to have both wheels spinnin at the same time. Also would 3.73 be ok? Its a 318/727 combo...maybe 3.90? And also around usually what does something like this cost at a rear end shop? Or how is the difficulty level? Im sure getting it put in there shouldnt be too hard? But probably getting everything adjusted right might be?

Thanks for the input guys

I looked aroud Summit some more and found the ring and pinion gears, looks like they dont have 3.73 so itd be 3.55 or a 3.91...Seems like a big difference, I wonder which would be better..

3.91 is pretty high for a street car, in my opinion. I'm sure there are lots of guys who love their 3.91's, but with 3.91's and 28 inch tall tires I was doing 3100 RPM at 60. A little too high for my liking. As far as putting it together goes, just have a good Chrysler shop manual handy. It's a fairly simple process. The first one I did whined, so I took it back apart, shimmed it a little differently and put it back in. No problems since. It's just a matter of getting it adjusted like you said. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply wish4hemi. I was thinking a 3.91 would be pretty high but since I cant seem to find a 3.73, which seems like it would be the perfect gear, and I am not really sure on the 3.55 being much different than the 3.21 that are in the car now. If the tranny had overdrive would the 3.91 still be a problem or would the OD cure that overrevving

I'm looking into a different gearset as well, and perhaps for a suregrip also.

I'd say that the overdrive wil cure the high RPM's, but what overdrive do you have? Or are planning on installing one?

Putting an OD in an A-body requires some customizing...
