i changed my original ignition cylinder, and ever since my steering wheel moves in and out an 1/8 or 1/4 inch. the horn contact is f'ed up so it goes crazy whenever it wants. that led me to unlplug the horn. id like to have a horn and a steering wheel that doesnt move around. i was thinking a rebuild would help but wanted to know if i should attempt it or pay a professional?

There should be a tiny snap ring in a groove on top of the upper column bearing. That stops the downward travel. Maybe that snap ring didn't get back in the proper groove.
The lower bearing on the later models is nothing more than a glorified bicycle bearing. There is a spring there that compensates for bearing race wear. maybe those bearing balls fell out. Hope this helps.
