Looking for some recommendations for tires for a 2014 RAM 1500 Big Horn. The Goodyear SA/s lasted only 36k miles even after recommended rotations. Looking for a quiet all season radial and I do tow a 28' travel trailer 7 - 8 times a year.

    Thanks in advance.

What size do you currently have? Is it 4wd? Are you looking for strictly a street tire or a/t?

I run the goodyear but only @ 36psi not the 44psi and get 45-50k. Fl roads are pretty good.

44 psi? I thought the newer 1500 rams recommended pressure was 40 psi? I know the 2016 ram at work is

My 2011 1500 4.7 4 door has 44 on the door sticker. Center tread wears out real quick at the higher pressure.

Yeah for sure, huh, dodge may have lowered the recommended on the newer years, i agree that is way too much as well, usually 35 psi is good for a half ton pickup with passenger rated tires.

Ok op i put together some options, looks like your ram has 275/60R20’s from the factory. any of these will be a better replacement over the goodyears. None on this list should wear out in 40k miles. All mileage posted are the manufacturers ratings, realistically expect to get 5-10k less miles. Prices are based on what we would sell them for at work to help give you an idea on a fair price.

First list is for 275/60R20 highway tires:

      1. Falken Wildpeak H/T rated at 60k miles. Fair retail price $155 ea plus tax.

      2. General Graber HTS60 rated at 65k miles. Fair retail price $185 ea plus tax.

      3. Cooper Evolution H/T rated at 60k miles. Fair retail price $189 ea plus tax.

      4. BFG Advantage T/A Sport LT rated at 65k miles. Fair retail price $195 ea plus tax.

      5. Cooper Discoverer SRX rated at 75k miles. Fair retail price $195 ea plus tax.

      6. Toyo Open Country H/T rated at 60k miles. Fair retail price $200 ea plus tax.

      7. Continental CrossContact LX20 rated at 70k miles. Fair retail price $210 ea plus tax

      8. Michelin Defender LTX M/S rated at 80k miles. Fair retail price $250 ea plus tax.

Any of these would be a good choice, if it was mine id go with either the bfgs the toyos or michelins.

275/60R20 All terrain tires if your ram is 4wd:

      1. Falken Wildpeak AT/3 rated at 55k miles. Fair retail price $195 ea plus tax.

      2. Nitto Terra Grappler G2 rated at 65k miles. Fair retail price $225 ea plus tax.

      3. Nitto Ridge Grappler, Nitto offers no mileage rating on these tires but they look awesome and grip well in everything. Fair retail price $230 ea plus tax.

      4. Toyo Open Country A/T II rated at 65k miles. Fair retail price $245 ea plus tax.

      5. Michelin LTX A/T2 rated at 60k miles. Fair retail price $260 ea plus tax.

On the all terrains id go with the toyos or the nittos hands down

On my ‘03 Dakota .... I tried the Toyo AT. It was good. I then went and tried and stayed with the Cooper AT3. Awesome. But not a Hwy. tire. It was quite though! Handled very well.

I now have a ‘18 RAM & will watch with interest. I still have a need to potentially drive through 2 feet of snow. This is a must. I have to be able to do such a thing.

          I can speak for 20" 4 x4 on 09-18 RAM 1500
Falken Wildpeak AT3's - aggressive look but not noisy at all. Good snow, rain, wear.
Cooper AT3's - Good snow, rain, wear.
Falken's are currently on my father in law's 14 and Dunlop's are on my 09.
Prior to that we ran the factory Wrangler's. They wear fast and not great in rain/snow.
My next tires will be the Wildpeaks.

40,000 miles on the SR goodyears on my 2015 Bighorn running the recommended 40psi , treadwear shows another 10,000 miles . I´m going to replace them with the same.

I just put Michelin Defender on my 3500 to replace the stock Firestone, i told the tire company I wanted something that was good in rain, snow and highway use. So far I have 4k miles on them and they have been great in all of the above conditions. I also occasionally pull 4k-12k pound trailers with this truck. As far as longevity, not sure yet but hopefully last longer than 35k which I got on the stock Firestone.

I've got the Cooper AT3 on my '13 F150 4x4 in that size and I really like them. They have a nice aggressive look but are quiet on the road. We've done WI to FL twice and WI to TX this winter and they ride great at 80 mph. Seem to be wearing well and the overall grip in snow and rain is excellent. They are very reasonably priced and if you watch, Fleet Farm has a buy 3 get 1 sale every few months. For the price, I don't think you can beat them. If you want something that lasts a long time, they generally are harder and don't grip in the wet and sloppy very well. I had some Duelers on my old Dakota that were a disaster.

I’ve had 3 new Ram 2500’s since 1994 and used nothing but Michelin‘s for replacements. They are not cheap but they ride and wear well.

That’s pretty good mileage for the Goodforayears! I didn’t get much over 25k out of the last two sets I ran. I went with Cooper AT3’s this time, so far I have about 15k on them. They have gotten a little bit louder than when I first bought them, but the traction compared to the SRA’s is night and day. I don’t notice any degreadation in stability when towing my camper, however, my mileage has dropped by 1-1.5mpg for every scenario I drive (city/hwy/towing).

Master craft axt's or mxt's are what me, then my dad, then one of my buddies run on our rams. Made in ohio I believe.
The stock goodyear's are junk. All ours were shot between 15 and 19k.

Stock good years were a scary tire when there were a few flakes of snow. Scared me to drive the damn 2012 truck.

When I went looking for tires I simply went and looked to northern parts of Canada where they still have snow till about May Most of the trucks run bfg all terrain k02

Now I took that info and compared to other a/t tires. The bfg had a snow rating on the tire. The rest did not! Choice was made for me. Put the bfgs on and no more issues. Truck is now a truck and can do everything I ask it to and not get stuck on someone's front lawn

Mastercraft is a copper tire substanciary. Look at the tread patterns and wear ratings as you compare. MC is probably cheaper, and identical. Friendly fyi.

This is true, however most times the cooper isnt much more than the mastercraft, the mastercraft are decent but dont balance as good as the coopers. Wouldnt hurt the op to check on the price though

Ditto on the Goodyear’s in the snow and we had hardly any this year on the Island.

I never even thought to look for a snow rating! Why didn’t I think of that?

This one has a snow rating!

A few more years and I’ll be dropping snow tires permanently!
                          (I hope....)
