So i have this 340 that i'm putting together for my dart. Been going back and forth with different ideas for it but am gonna look to you guys to see what you think.
.030 over 340
ross pistons part no 99626 with 12.6cc domes.
11.4-1 compression
forged h beam rods with a factory forged crankshaft
harland sharp 1.5 ratio rockers
comp cams rx302-s camshaft solid roller
302/309 269/276 at .050 .654/.655 lift
super victor intake
this engine with a poor combined heads and exhaust ran 12.26 at 112. being that it had ported smog heads that werent ported very well and 1 5/8 headers and an old 750 berry grant.
it ran out of steam at 6700 when its supposed to pull clear to 7500 and it didn't help that it didn't have enough rear end gear for a good rpm through the traps and a 4200 stall converter which wasn't enough.
what i was thinking is to get a set of edelbrock rpm heads and good headers and an 850 carb and see what this thing does when it can breathe. anyone know if there are aftermarket open chamber aluminum heads out there? or would i be better off having these pistons milled down as ross said i can cut them clear down to flat tops safely. wanna run this motor on pump gas and build as much power as i can doing so. will be going in a 69 dart with dot slicks 29x14.5 4.56 gears 4 speed. i'd like to try and keep this cam and make it work with a better combo of other parts. this is not an engine that i built i actually bought it for 3k thinking that it was better than it actually ended up being.
