Sweet stuff,Keith... Was a " petroleum distribution engineer" from 85 to 89... Pumped 91 "leaded premium" until late '88... The unleaded replacement was originally rated at 93 RON, nasty awesome purple stuff...( two months time..) Of course, California made it pee water 91 ( sigh...)

From late 1985 to early 1987, I worked at what I believe was the last true full service gas station in my area of Ohio.

Union 76. Did not even have a self service option.

When I started there were a few Shell stations that still had full serve, but they also had a self serve island and were rapidly getting rid of the full serve island, and most were gone before I changed jobs.

my uncle had a station looked lot like the one just above. Dawson, Ga. I remember as a kid in late 50's, sixties. he also kept "books" for a few businesses just down the street in that small town, pop. bout 4000. he drove his motorcycle as a young man from Dawson to Indy for the race back in late 40's. Ha! can anyone imagine the roads back them, and a hard tail cycle????? ha

The last photo in Post #34 shows the Rancho Cucamonga Service Station in it's heyday. The pic in Post #90 shows its current condition at the time of the post in February 2015.
The site received historical status from the city and a group restored the old station to how it now looks:

A local Route 66 group is continuing efforts to raise funds to rebuild the old garage behind the station similar to how it looked in the pic from Post #34.
Some of the rebuild/restoration funds come from an annual car show held nearby.
It's great to see local effort to restore the historical sites for current enthusiasts to continue to enjoy.
