What happens is theres a drip of oil on the bolt head and people crawl under to get an extra 1/4 turn with a big old wrench

Can you explain the annealing process?

That's not a bad deal. I've seen the bolt alone advertised for more than that! While we are on the subject. Mega Parts has this kit if you need a bolt as well. Small Block Offset Oil Filter Bracket Bolt and Gasket Kit, Oil Filters, 101-OFB-1 Reproduction, NOS and Used Mopar Muscle Car Parts

I bought one since in addition to being strong it was supposed to increase flowYikes! $50 for a bolt! ive already got the gasket kit. Guess ill just pray my bolt will be ok when I remove it.
Great,Thanks guys. Would Gasgacinch qualify as contact cement? Would you recommend removing the huge center bolt when the engine is completely cold or slightly warm?there's an indentation where the gasket rides. i like to use hi-tack or contact cement to hold it, just a little bit. like cruze said, a few dabs of sticky grease will work too.
Funny, this is my original 68 340 bolt.Okay, my '69 340 is 3/4", my '72 is the larger one.
This is exactly what I have too. According to what I read all of them have that size until 1972
The bolt will have a hole on the side of it. Look at it and if the hole is not round or has a twist to it, I would get another one. The bolt has been over tighten.Thanks. I doubt its ever been removed before. Hopefully the previous owner didnt try tightening the bolt down ans bend it like you mentioned. How common is it for the bolt to be damaged? Now im wondering if I buy anotjer bolt so if has been damaged I am able to put it back together right away.
I already replaced the gaskets a while ago. The bolt is fine. It was never overtightened. The bolt will have a hole on the side of it. Look at it and if the hole is not round or has a twist to it, I would get another one. The bolt has been over tighten.
