I'm thinking on what the best header to go with is:

Dougs D450 or TTI 636A: both are for early A bodies, small block.

Can someone provide info??

!) Best and easiest intall?
2) Source for best price?
3) what to do about the cyl. end studs (2 wet holes) can you keep studs?

4) recomendations?
5) how do they compare? als0; compare to spitfires? Harold still owes me a set, its been 2.5 years....no headers. he kept my money. Always promises them, never delivers. Anyone live next door to him??????

Members are getting Dougs from Summit for $500.Can,t beat that deal.Do a search under Dougs hedders for answers.Good luck.

1) Can't comment on the TTI but don't consider the Dougs to be a very difficult install. The torsion bars, steering column, & center link should be removed. I had my engine & K-member out when I did mine & it was super easy.
2) Don't know best price, I called Doug's & they gave me a recommended vendor, can't remember who (wasn't Summit), saved a couple hundred $.
3) You can use studs on the ends (I did), of course use thread sealent.
4) The Doug's fit nice with the limited space available. Overall very nice headers & no body butchering required. In a couple of places they are close to stuff so you may want to add some header wrap in those areas. Standard mini & stock starters will fit. Supposedly a special starter is required with the TTIs.
5) They are definitely an upgrade from the Spitfires but the TTI's may flow a little bit more. Howard is a thief. He stole my $ 5 years ago, received nothing but excuses.

I currently run Doug's D-450 on my 63 Valiant and love them. The install is tight, but just be patient and you'll be fine. I installed mine with the engine & tranny in place and found that pulling the torsion bars made it a piece of cake. Top starter bolt is fun, but was regardless of the headers.

Used to have 340 hi-po manifolds, then got Spitfires back in '02 before Harold became a crook. Stepped up to Doug's in '06 and they're holding up great.

The TTI's are a little bigger tube than the Doug's, but last I knew they required a special starter whereas the Doug's fits with the standard Chrysler mini-starter. Tube size hasn't been a performance issue for me, but I'm only running in the 11.70's thru full 2-1/2" exhaust. I think the Doug's might be pushing it to run in the 10's in street trim.

FYI, I still have the Spitfires if someone is looking for a thermal-coated set.

I can vouch for the Dougs first hand. I put a pair in my 65 360 Valiant. Hands down easiest set of headers I have ever installed and I've installed a lot.

Replace that top starter bolt with a female allen head bolt and use one of those "ball end" allen tools to get at it. Piece of cake.

Just an FYI. I found the Dougs D450 Ceramic coated headers at AutoPartsDealer.com for $774.11. They have free shipping but the headers have a special handling charge of $53.95.

Just figured somebody might want to show the $774.11 price to Summit & have them do a price match. They'd probably do it & never even consider the handling charge. If you could do this & combine it with a 15% discount the next time they have one it would bring the price down to around $660. Still high but a lot better than Summit's current price of about $880!

this means that im gonna have to look into making a couple sets....I wont charge nearly as much

I have the dougs in my 66 and they are a great header set. I am going to the tti's for my 408 as I think the 3" collector and 1-5/8-1-3/4 step will flow better than the Dougs 2-1/2 collector and 1-5/8 tubes. Drivers side tbar definitly has to come out with the Dougs, I don't know about the tti's. Guess I will find out.

If you can duplicate the quality and guaranty they will fit.....I would jump at a set....if your serious pm me with the $$$$$

I have some experince building headers but havent ever made a set for an early-A. I was going to build a pair for my wagon and attempt to keep power steering and brakes. Im thinking 1-5/8 primaries and 3" collectors. I have no idea when I will get around to making a 'prototype' set. I will make sure everyone knows if Im sucsessful.
