Witch heads would be better for my 408 build? Havnt ordered my rotating assy. yet. Wll be going w/ forged crank, and pistons. Would like to be in the 10.0-10.5 to 1 range w a solid roller cam. Looking for around 550 HP on pump gas. What combos are working best for you guys? This will be my 1st stroker. Im a 340 guy.:help:

IMO, Either head will need substantial port work to reach that level. With what you're planning, IMO, I'd run the RPMs with a CNC program. The porting level required will be fairly substantial and RPMs being aluminum will be easier to do, more than likely cheaper, and lighter to boot. I feel once you have to port them, the advantage and lower initial cost of the RHS heads is lessened dramatically. It might actually be cheaper to run a better head with less porting if your goal is a real 550hp.

I'm running the rpm heads but they've been worked over by Ryan at shady dell. With the flat top pistons, my comp ratio is 11.2/1 which seems like a lot ,but with the aluminum heads I can still run a GOOD high test pump gas with no detonaton problems.

A set of Brians RHS Heads with a Solid Roller Cam and 13:1 + Compression will get you to 550HP in my opinion. Is E85 available in your neck of the woods? Cheaper than Pump Premium and guys are having great success with it.

Buddy of mine up here in maine has a shady dell roller, stage 3 eddy headed 550 HP 408 in his plumb crazy 70 duster. A ride in that car was my inspiration to build a 408.

No E 85 up here.

What would be the highest compression ratio i could run on 93 w/o detonation issues. A little higher w the alluminum im told.

I'd run ported Edelbrock heads on the stroker. I have them on my current 360 @ 11-1 and it runs fine on 93 octane. Cam is 250* @ 050 duration which helps bleed off pressure at a low RPM.

The W2 comment is also a good idea. Valve train could be pricey. If you all ready have a hardened chrome shaft & roller rockers, purchase 8 off-set rockers.

At 550hp, you'd need a pretty heavily ported set of ede's or a set of RHS's with the pinch opened up a bunch.

Talk with someone like Brian at Indio Motor about what it would take to make an honest 550hp.

Do you have the flow numbers for the RHS heads and ported as well?

I,m running mild ported Eddy RPM,s on my solid roller cammed 408(410)I,m gonna say I,m around 500hp.I,ve never had the engine dynoed, but have ran in the 10,s at the track.I,m at 10.5 to 1 compression running Sunoco Gold 94.:thumbrig:

Cracked, i watcher her for ten minutes hoping those puppies would finally shake loose and come out of her halter top but it didn't happen. You're such a tease.

Don't forget to look at other heads like the Indy 360's. By the time you purchase heads and pay for the cnc porting you'll be in that ballpark $ wise anyway.

2nd 340 dart on the tease. That is just not funny crackedback. It's kind of like watching a tennis match.....

For the amount of porting it would take on either (=$$), you should look into the W2's or Indy heads. IMO, 550 HP is pretty much the limit for RHS because of the pinch. Edlebrocks supposedly can support well over 600 with a lot of work on them.

It is just not the same without Justin and the other clown going at it over EDDY/RHS heads......

A lot of that was some people confuse the "better head" with the "better value." Yeah, you'll be able to make more power with Eddy, but unless you're trying to make more power than RHS is capable of, the RHS heads are the better VALUE (HP per $). When you have someone asking "Which heads, RHS or Eddy?" and their post goes on to say they want a 450 HP street motor, then RHS would definitely be the way to go at barely over half the price of Eddy's. If someone was going for something over 550, then Eddy's would probably be the better way to go. Neither RHS or Eddy are the best head out there.

Indy 360's require work as they stink OOTB. Once they are fixed, they work well.

RHS are the best bang for the buck in the 525 and down HP range as physhy mentions . Where you want to play in the HP arena should determine what you buy.

I have ported eddys on my roller 340 pulling 450 hp rite now. Im looking for another 100hp. Shadys 408 in my buddys duster has eddys and thats pulling 550. Im thinking the eddys will be a better choise so i can run a little more compression. Not worried about the port work. Good buddy of mine owns a machine shop. He treats me well. What kind of flow #s should i be looking for to get 525-550 HP?

I like the lower weight of the Edelbrocks. But like said above you can't beat the bang for the buck of the RHS heads.

Theoretically if your heads flow 275 cfm you can make 550. The Edelbrocks on my car are Stage 2 ported by Shady Dell and flow 280 cfm at 550 lift.
