There was an auto company named Maxwell during the 1920’s that was losing it’s footing amongst the industry and a banker that had invested cash to keep it going, the very same banker that helped Oldsmobile out for GM with the assistance of an ex railroad worker by the name Walter.
The banker saw the persistence in Walter in his efforts to make Oldsmobile a profitable company and asked him to step in to save Maxwell in the same way, Walter wasn’t sure he wanted to help as Maxwell was in bad shape.
The banker persisted that it was ready to be improved on and made better and convinced Walter to “save” it.
Walter stepped in to help sometime around 1924 and realized what the banker was getting to…..1924 was the last year for a Maxwell automobile
In 1925 Walter P Chrysler started the legend of Chrysler Corporation.
I found this badly burned 1926 Chrysler Rumble seat Roadster ( second model year for Chrysler )

at a local pick-n-pull and saw that it had been an insurance claim car and been disposed of. It looks like at one time it was restored only to be a loss to a fire …….Sad.

people diversify their assets. I am thinking, looking at this, to diversify the location of my stuff. Insurance does not seem to be overly generous when paying out. None of my junk is 1 of 1 or 1 of 60 for that matter, just me n the dog.

Sad to see this kind of history melting into the ground. Seems like they should at least try to get ahold of one of the car museums across our country and sell it for scrap price instead of this kind of demise.

That is sad indeed. But you know what they say......anything can be saved.

Be a great project for somebody who owns a 'Let us fix your corrosion' business......

We get garage fires at work ALL THE TIME, and once we have the fire out, we have to go through everything to "mop it up" and make sure we did our job. It's very sad to see these folks' projects that took years of work destroyed in a matter of minutes.

Always have a fire extinguisher nearby!!!! It's cheap insurance, and as the saying goes, "Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it."

Man, that's a heartbreaker. You'd figure someone would've scapped onto it before it got to pick n' pull, at least for a 'rod project or something.

That f'en blows.

If you can’t buy the whole thing, buy the shell and frame and build a rat rod!!

don't forget walter p chrysler just saved the willis overland company , brought them from the red into the black with a very commanding salary as vp , my willis overland touring car from walter p's days with willis overland , set on a pair of a rails with chevy truck grille shell , plymouth tube front axle , ford wide five rear end .
