Hey All:

One day down the road I might build a big block car. What are the relevant issues with given year 440 engines?

Somebody told me 72 models were desirable? ??

Any help is appreciated.

Steve

Anything after 72 I would have sonic checked for cylinder thickness.

Otherwise I'd have no problem building any of them, but prefer the steel crank and LY rods.
906/902/346/452/915 all good heads with the 346 being my last choice.

They don't do well in the oiling department much over 7200rpm so any sustained usage in that rpm will require oiling mods.

The rear main seal is like a slant with an aluminum plate and some 12 point bolts.
Look for non ac pulleys and alternator brackets.

sb flex plates fit.

No production 440 had 4 bolt mains. The current MP blocks have Hemi style Cross bolted mains, and are much stronger.

Thanks for the link. There's some really interesting information there.
