ShittySlant6's Rustoration - 1970 Duster

the beehive springs i suggested would be much cheaper than the b3 correction kit surely?
neil.
Yes. And the geometry would still be wrong. Clearance at the retainer/spring interface is not the only problem here. I suggest going to Mike’s website and reading his tech pages.

I just emailed him, so hopefully I can get this resolved soon, this is the last step before moving onto the transmission.
Thanks for shoving me in the right direction; I would of still been grinding on those rockers:lol:

The willingness to do the job correctly is refreshing. Your engine will thank you.

Alright; I finally got all the measurements for my valvetrain done and sent in to B3.
Not much progress has been made outside of that though; since the spacers and pushrods are the only things I have left to do on the motor.

However; I did have enough time to squeeze in some more headaches.

I went to put on my oil pan and I quickly realized that the 360 and 318 pans are different. So i ordered the cheapest oil pan I could get.
When that arrived I started looking for my oil pan bolts... which seemed to have disappeared.
I had to order new bolts.
Once I had the bolts here and the pan, I tried to install.
Only then did I realize that the pan rails were bent and the pan was a little warped. SCREW IT that damn thing was going on the engine no matter what.
after I had siliconed everything, and had tried to set the pan down, I saw that the cork rail gaskets were hitting the end seals and the pan wouldn't sit flush. I trimmed the gaskets and forced that damn thing on there.
the rail gaskets were squeezing out so bad I had to wait until it dried to sinch the pan down.

Nightmare

First one to guess the color will get nothing; but I will be slightly impressed.

:rofl:yes, but sometimes it's necessary. ONLY SOMETIMES.
I'm a harbor freight guy typically
I'm surprised Snap On hasn't gone after Harbor Freight. Their Icon wrenches use the exact same font that Snap On wrenches use and if the two brands were unmarked, you could not tell the difference. The Icon stuff is very high quality.

You'll like dealing with Mike. He fixed me up on my current slant six build. Worked out very well.

Idk what color it is but it looks great. Nice job.

Small update, I haven't been working on it basically at all, been helping friends with their projects and I recently have been pretty involved in learning 3d printing and CAD.
However I find myself with a lot of time on my hands due to a pretty annoying hernia which put me off of work until probably march sometime. So last week I decided to continue tearing apart the car to get ready for the rollcage and paint.

Thankfully I caught the rust just in time. the area behind the splash shields is just BARELY showing some pitting on the passenger side and the rockers are showing some surface rust.
The rust holes in the tops of the inner fenders do not concern me as I am going to get fiberglass everything from the doors forward. The car will have a tubular front end minus the frame rails.
And if I didn't have a hernia I could probably lift the front end off the ground. - i knew it was light (2730 at the scales) but not that light.
