Every day I walk our Doberman down the street to an empty lot we purchased. It is fenced in by a 10 foot high concrete block wall all around. However, in the wall facing the street are two small slots about six inches wide and two feet tall that would resemble "windows" but there is no glass installed.

Last night as I approached the lot to unlock the steel door and go inside with Camelia (the Doberman), I heard the very high-pitch wining of a dog "locked" inside the lot. Come to find out, someone must have tossed the puppy dog through one of the openings and left it alone inside. The little pup would not leave me alone, followed me around everywhere inside.

I went home and brought back some kibble and water. Boy, that little girl sure was hunger. I returned the next morning with a little more kibble, but not enough, it was all swallowed in about a minute. I went online to a local facebook group to ask about dog adoption and city pound options (I'm not in the market for another pet). I decided to take it to the pound (even though one comment said dog's only have a lifespan of ten days there).

I brought the dog home and gave it another meal before taking her for a ride over to the pound. Just about then, our handyman Miguel showed up. I asked him if he knew anyone interested in adopting a puppy (looks 2-3 months old to me). He said yes he did. I got my hopes up that maybe the dog could actually find a real home. I asked Miguel who he had in mind. Much to my surprise he answered "Yo".

So the puppy (still un-named) is now under the care of Miguel. He took her right home for a bath (she has fleas, of course). Then he took her to the Vet to find the lump on her hip was most probably acquired in a dog fight of some kind. I went to Sam's Club and purchased a 4 kilo bag of kibble to get Miguel stocked with a little food. He also said puppy will be vaccinated soon.

Funny how we live among two different types of people, those responsible and those not. I hope it works out for Miguel (who presently only has a cat). That's a load off my mind.

This is a big problem here in rural Florida, our Facebook page is full of found dogs and cats and all the county and private shelters are full.

Im glad this has positivity to it! I was concerned for a minute. Look at his face! Man what a beautiful boy. He must have been terrified. To be honest i couldn't have left him at the property.

As I was reading your post, my heart sank when you said you had decided to take her to the pound, given she would likely be put down. So I am really glad that this story has had a fairy tail ending so far. Thanks for caring and being her bridge to salvation, us animal lovers really appreciate you.

Great news, what a pretty pup, hope She has a long happy life with lots of love!!

i couldn't have left her there even over night. are there any no kill shelters near you? may be a good idea to look into it for possible future pups getting dumped.

I'd have fed her for couple days to get her strength back up and maybe taken her to the country and re-dumped her if I didn't have any other options, rather than have her locked up at a pound with minimal chance at life. At least being re-dumped, she might find a home. And you know how it is... You can never bring yourself to re-dump them and next thing you know, you don't know how you go without her.

That said, I'm on a rather large gun website and I suspect she would've been homed quickly there. Those guys will network a dog transfer across the whole country if they have to, and with her having some German Shepard, that would not have taken long.

Bless Miguel. That's a bravo maneuver if I ever seen one.

Same here my dog died long ago. It was just the cat. Both we found just like this dumped or abandoned.
Not looking for another pet after being pet less for many years. But no way I could have left that sad / scared face down.
That's just waiting to be ya buddy.

And wth is a 4-kilo bag of dog food? Dog food is measured in 'weeks supply'. You got fifteen dogs on your front porch, then you take the 3/4 ton truck to the store for a weeks supply. If you only got three or four, then you only need a minivan.

4 kilos? That ain't even ten pounds. That's like... Not even a day's supply for most of my neighbors.

Our ten year-old Doberman eats 25 kilos in three months (weighs about 60 pounds).

Holy! My 2 husky/shepherds and my shepherd mix eat an 18 kilo bag plus 30 cans every month! Plus all the 'extra' treats and table scraps.

Thank you for looking after that sweet little puppy that some douchebag abandoned. She deserves a chance at a good life.

Dang yall. He DID find it a home. I wouldn't have held anything against him had he taken her to the pound. I'm glad it didn't work out that way, but the sad reality is, you caint save um all. ...and that's comin from a guy with twelve cats.

I'm a pushover for a pretty little face. That one would be difficult to let go.
I kinda got my first dog in 2008. He was supposed to be for my wife's niece but he chose me. I never knew how much they can give. I think dogs are amazing.

My 84yr. old Neighbor all of a sudden is on pace to catch up to You, Our buddy Elmo was His only kitty that wandered up stray 10yrs.+ ago, He wasn't real happy with the new crew.....lost some back hair...stress manifest, 4 new regulars + a number of other ferals/kittens now frequenting. His territory ain't His no mo, so He feels, He wanted to come in to My place a couple times. I keep thinking what's gonna go down when I lose My Neighbor, I'd take Elmo in once I prevent access to work areas w/hazards & nasties, but I'm already buying litter/wet & dry food/yearly & 2yr shots/checkups for Miss Sandy's 2 babies.....one more is all I've got room in My budget for..
