Pit bull mixed got our Golden retriever today.

Ah, my sarcasm detector was offline.

It's infuriating the the dogs were mauling an innocent person, yet the owner squawked about the dog being shot. He should
My apologies but all that pit would have heard was the clock right befor

I love animals as much as the next person, that could've been a child, a older person. There was a guy walking his dog in a dog park in St.Louis and some jerk had his pits running around and they attacked a guy lucky he wasn't killed. The owner of the pits took off. To bad the guy didn't have a gun, he could've killed the dogs. In Missouri you have the right to protect yourself or another person and your pets too.

I drew my weapon on a dog just a few months ago....a stray that just shows up barking at me. The dog actually sniffed my weapon and maybe knew what it was because the barking ceased and that was the end of that confrontation. I've been cornered before by a dog and I became a bronze statue and for a very long time. The dog finally got bored I guess and walked away and got into a pickup that wasn't too far away with an open door. I waited for a bit for the dog to get comfy and go to sleep. Took me about 10 minutes to walk 15 feet to the truck and once I was close enough, I lunged at the door and slammed it shut. Just glad it latched. The dog went ape ****!! Originally went there to look at a car and they knew I was coming but never mentioned anything about dogs and didn't answer the door. Never went back and don't know if the dog died of heat stress as it was early morning (9ish) but summer time. What's the matter with people!???

Got a neighbor with 3 large dogs (not pits though) and whenever I do yard work, they go nuts. Guess I'm going to have to start doing yard work armed. I'm 74 now and no where do I want to heal from dogs bites or worse.

My daughters Pit mix dove on our golden . I could not get her off. She was like an alligator. Latched on Dori's neck and twisted back and forth so fast. Once I got a hold of its collar .I tried dragging her off and I just drug both dogs away together.

I twisted the collar and pulled she turned and latched onto my arm. I started punching her in the head while my legs were wrapped around her. Kitchen chairs were flying, Table was moved against the fridge with me and the dog under it. Grand kids screaming , Wife screaming.

It took everything I had not to shoot that dog in front of the kids. I never thought that dog would turn like that for no reason . No wonder that breed gets a bad rap.

Now I am hurting pretty bad and for what. Taking in a Rat bastard that should have got put down. A very docile dog that turned monster for no reason. The 11 month old golden was just sitting next to me with its head on my lap. Man I am hurting, Todds coming over to help ship some parts.

I pity Dori. Paw bit and swelled , Neck ripped up laying here shaking.

There's always going to be somebody sticking up for pit bulls, but it doesn't change the fact that more often than not they hurt people and kill other dogs.

Be sure to have your daughter pay for your medical bills, you can have the dog put down and that's something that you might want to consider. It could've been one of those kids

You also have to pick your battles with wild life and dogs.
few months back my wife is in the back yard and I am inside. I hear her yelling and hear banging. So I go out. There she is telling the possum to go. It is hissing and showing its teeth now. Went from sitting down pretending it's not there. They will just stop andvl hide in place, silly as it is. So she's got a long broom or rake and they are going at it. I told her stop unless she knows how to cook it.

Really? By your logic, at least 51% of Pit bulls harm or kill someone or another animal?
Yeah, I'll defend them because I own them. I've had several and will continue. Every friend that comes over here is greeted by curious but sweet dogs that never show aggression toward them. NONE of the 5 that we have had has ever been aggressive toward a person. People can walk down the street and they will bark but no worse than other breed dogs that we have had.
Ours have been around kids, adults, other dogs and loud cars and none of them have been violent.
Some of you are like racists are toward anyone that isn't the same color as you. You hear statistics and listen to the media and don't look any further.
I do have sympathy for the OP and have no explanation for the attack.
Years ago it was Dobermans that scared people, then it was Rottweillers, German Shepherds and other breeds.

There will always be someone that will stick up for something that doesn't make sense to us folks that think sensible.....

Don't know what I did wrong on that one lol

First off I'd like to say, there is no defense for your daughter's dog, the viscous sucker needs to be put down, as with any dog that attacks unprovoked.
I hope you heal and your dog
Breeding any other breed with a pit makes it a mutt.
Pure bred pits are a different dog, well-tempered.
Here's my pure- bred American terrier, blazer raised my grandchildren, 2 cats and my wife's mini aussie. He was around many people and pets during his 14 years on earth, very dependable.

Right! It's the mixing of breeds that can bring out bad traits in any dog. The pit mixes we hear more about because of the media and such. Kinda like AR15s and Glocks. They seem to be the only two guns the media thinks exist.

I agree that an aggressive animal needs to be dealt with, if euthanasia is the only choice, I agree with it.
Unprovoked attacks are not to be tolerated.
I was biased against Pit Bulls until we took in "Buddy", my brother's Lab/Pit Bull mix. Brother Wayne was fading away from Leukemia. We couldn't tell a dying man that we wouldn't take care of his dog. Buddy lived to be 15 1/2 years and never bit anyone or anything.
We were aware of the stigma that these dogs have. The Pit Bull rescue that we used to volunteer for had a strict policy toward behavior. Many know that this breed can be very strong and very determined. They would not adopt out a dog that showed aggression. To do so is not only irresponsible, it is negligent. As much as it would break my heart, I would put down a dog of mine if he/she were to hurt a person.

How much liability coverage do you have on your homeowners policy? A million may not be enough. After a person or other animal get's hurt or killed it's too late.

Yea them pesky poodles can be viscous, especially them giant ones.
You ever had one of them latch on to you, I have, tore the knee out of my brand new Levi's.
I remember the **** my dad got for getting a pair of AKC registered Doberman's in the 70's, two of the best dog's I've ever been around next to Blazer.
and the there's Duke the Rott.

Pit bulls are the most unpredictable. I've only known a handful of people who had them and they are a one person dog. Just the other guy a older gentleman was walking in the park and some clown had his 3 pit bulls running around which is against the law to begin with, anyway his dogs attacked the man and lucky he was able to get his dogs off the guy and like a coward he took off now the guy is left paying for his own medical bills plus he has to have rabie shots because they can't test the dogs since the owner ran off. This happened in St.Louis MO

I don't know how it is where most of you guys live, but where I'm at even posting a no trust passing sign is worthless. Our insurance man told me several times where the individual was sued and lost and they even had a no trust passing sign and one that said don't pet the dog, the guy's dog bite someone and got sued and lost.

By far the most viscous dog we ever owned was a Chihuahua, was raised with a pit mix and my young children, had to re-home the Chihuahua.

Sometimes the small dogs are just assholes.
A former friend used to have a Pomeranian that hated everyone but him. Yeah, their attacks do far less damage but they can still be assholes.
Not all of them though. His son has had two that are real sweet. Why a man wants to have a Pomeranian is still unclear to me, especially if that man likes women.

Sorry. I know there are a hundred guys on this blog who are going to dislike this. They are going to say that they have a Pit and it is so gentle....... It would never hurt anybody........ It is so good with kids.....
However, when did you last hear about a Golden Retriever, Dachshund, Poodle, Terrier, Saint Bernard, etc, killing somebody or viciously attacking another dog without provocation. I am a dog person. I am 74 and have always had a dog, but I don't like Pits. I am sorry. I do not mean to irritate anybody, but the facts are the facts. If you have a Pit that is nice, that is great. But I don't want to be around one.
