Speedometer off

By my calculations you would need a mature-alot gear. (I do get the humor of your post, but really in a residential neighborhood feet from people, cars and machinery!)

Just my 2 cents (flame me if you need to prove your manliness)
Its a no outlet road everyone on the street was there watching them fix our cables. All of us have cars with very large cammed up motor. Fords and Chevys The workers had Hondas with fart cans that were the fastest in the valley. They were the guys that took the video and talking. I think I converted a couple to buy American. At least they stopped talking about there Hot rods and got the computers working..
I've been at street races in worse places.

So finally got the old one out today, it is a 33.

So I'm looking for a 37 to replace it.

Anyone got a 36 or 37 they might want to sell? or I could trade you a 33 and a couple 29's

Many 36 and 37 on ebay for about $40.00. I would check with the dealer many parts are still available if you have the part number

Ordered a 36 off ebay, showed up today, so tomorrow i'll pop that bad boy in and see what happens.

Actually, put it in today, then finished up some work I was doing on my dash , switching to LED’s.
Got the car off the stands and drove it to church tonight.
The speedo came up to 5mph and stayed there.
Thinking I didn’t get it clocked right and it’s not meshing with the gear in the tranny. Guess I get to try it again tomorrow

Ooh, not good
Hope if it is a clocking issue it is off enough not to strip the teeth.
Keep us posted

Hmmm so sure what’s going on. Got under it today and pulled it back out , gear looks fine, put it back in and made sure it was clocked right.
Same result. Reads 5mph
I did have it unhooked at the speedo end cause I was doing some dash work. But I’ve reached up under there and I’ve hooked it up and re-hooked it, shoved it on till it clicked.

Only thing I can think of is the cable is not engaged with the spedo or gear OR the clocking is not correct. I saw a photo posted of the clocking and I did not see a definite point here for this gear number range in the trans adapter.

Try putting the OE gear in and see if the spedo works. If it doesn't that most likely at spedo end.

You could put the rear in the air, pull the speo cable from the rear of the spedo and put it in drive and see that the cable spins correctly.

Out of ideas now!

Any chance the plastic gear is spinning on the metal shaft?

We’ll, I don’t know. That did cross my mind. Can’t believe I screwed up the speedometer just by taking the dash cluster in and out a few times.
Guess I’ll be under it again tomorrow.

Ok, figured out what’s going on. Took a picture on the way home tonight. If you look close at the end of the needle you’ll see the problem. The needle is trying to sweep in front of the numbers, and it’s getting stuck. Guess when I had the cluster out , upside down on the bench the needle must have worked it’s way forward.
So get to pull the cluster out again and open it up.

Didn't see that one!
Yea!
Pain in the butt, but easy fix.

Still waiting in Antici......pation!

How many times have you been past 100,000?

Not really sure of my actual mileage. Had to replace the instrument cluster several years ago.
Anyway, after pulling the cluster straightening out the needle. And finally getting it out for a nice run yesterday.
The new 36 tooth gear is perfect, at 60 it reads exactly like the gps speedo on my phone.

I have seen other of his posts. And it looks like that car or a very similar one has been wrecked into a tree or pole. Soooo..
