THE steel shim gasket for my intake,it has a raised area witch way does it go.Never played with an org intake.:???:

Don, the raised side goes up, if I remember correctly. the raised side gets crushed when you torqued the intake manifold down to seal the runners.

Two bolt holes on either head are just slightly bigger then the others. the gasket has a raised lip around two bolt holes. the raised area goes into these larger holes. So the side that has the raised lip around the two bolt holes goes down.

The embossed areas go UP towards the intake as said.

Nevermind the ports... The important part is the bolt holes. As Tim has said, the "raised" portion of the gasket around the bolt holes goes down into the bolt holes.

The raised portion is to align ( and keep aligned ) the gasket during intake installation.

Hey Rob when useing the factory intake is it a must to use the steel gasket.

I have read comments that say use the steel gaskets with factory iron intakes and paper type gaskets with aluminum.

But, my 351M Ford engine would not seal with paper gaskets and the Weiand Action Plus. I had to end up using the metal gaskets. I think obviously you can use either.
