I remember going to school in heavy snow packing a bagged lunch and would be lucky to get a peanut butter sandwich with chips and maybe a juice. Times have changed.
Yep. What makes no sense is Monday they wouldn’t cancel it when the flood waters had the schools being islands. They forced buses to drive thru the waters and two drowned out. Parents and teachers raised hell so I think that’s why they overcompensated today

Yeah, uphill both ways... But.. No ****, there I was ..

We grew up on Maxson Hill Road .. and yeah.. It was a big freaking hill

You had to be at the side of the road, at the appointed time, or you sucked dust from that bus flying by

Winter time was a school bus "drifting" down the hill about sideways .... When the driver got it collected up, you had to run to wherever she stopped at, or your *** was left behind
 :rofl:And your bagged lunch was full of dust or frozen.

Back in my day, we had to hunt our lunches… haha
I remember when I was young my parents were poor and to many times I never got lunch. I felt bad and would hide during school lunch. I would save the paper bag and fill it with paper every day so it looked like I had lunch.

Wow. Never had it that bad. Really puts things into perspective.

Mom was at work, so good luck M F'r

I'm one of those feral Gen-X kids.

Freaking figure it out

You know, I was born in 87. Depending on who you look at , I’m either a Xennial or a Millennial. But all my habits are more closely aligned with Gen X. I don’t know if it was because my mom was a teen mom or if it was because half my life I was raised by my grandparents on a farm.

But there’s a distinct difference in habits between me and my siblings, closest of which were born in 1992.

Yup ..

We got the "Free lunch" tokens.

There wasn't a stigma associated to it back then

I couldn't do that even back then, and when my wife died leaving me with 8 kids still at home I couldn't except welfare but worked hard to raise my kids by my own hand. I think in some ways I should have taken some help.

Yeah. I get that but you can hang your hat on never having to do that. That’s a life to be proud of my friend. Not that there’s anything wrong with getting assistance if you truly need it but struggling and finding a way to get thru on your own, that in my book is more impressive than someone with billions of dollars. Kudos

The closest I’ve come to that, I was homeless, spent my sophomore year of college completely estranged from family (my grandparents would have helped if they’d known but they didn’t). Lived in the back seat of my truck, worked 10p-6a, ROTC from 645 to 930, 1030 to 7p classes. Rinse and repeat. 10.44 an hour supported my now wife and I while we both fought our way thru college. Even then though, we were better off than most.

Wow that's a hard thing to deal with but I understand.

Chicago too. What's going on here?

the cap on an end of a pipe failed. It lasted I believe half of it's expected lifetime. had video of a guy trying to get to his plumbing truck...he was wearing what look like 20(?) gallon garbage cans over his boots.
can't remember where, but somewhere else had a 54" water main break.
