The VIN doesn't make sense for a 65 A body to me.

No passengers just electronics. First time a shuttle has used that strip since they added 5000' to it 40 years ago. They almost used it for one of the late shuttle missions due to bad weather I think it was in the east. I saw it comin', then I heard the sonic boom as it passed when they decided they wanted to play in the desert at Edwards AFB. There was somebody trying to get the USAF to let them use all that concrete for land-speed activities but it was unsuccessful

Some were glued some spot welded.
The holes were for locating purposes I believe.

That photo was in the news article. Lookin' at the photo again. That thing is not very big at all. You can see a fellow walking on the other side of it and his waist line is just even with the bottom of the shuttle. The tires are comparable in size to that pickup in the background.
