There was a local Cal Lotto winner many year ago, ticket never claimed. Almost at the end of the ticket eligibility the owner claimed it. He and his attorney had spent all of that time trying to figure out how to beat the taxes.

You go to the lottery machines. Usually there is a box for were people scan their loosers and toss them in the box.
So you empty the box and claim them as lovers on your tax return.
The stores don't throw them in the trash. Hint hint. Also if you know enough people the buy a lot of tickets offer them ten cents on the dollar for their losing tickets.

Lotto winnings in canada are tax free. So give me the ticket and i can claim the tax back. But it will cost you..
