This might help cant find the specs on the Durango right now.
People tend to think an 8 3/4 is a retirement plan these days .
There is one on cl local to me with no price. Then you call it and the dude is like " its worth 2k easy to a road runner guy"
Its an a- body unit with sbp and 3.23 open.
People watch too much custom car reality show. Like the one show they paid over 3000 for a grille for a 73 challenger... or so they claimedThats about a $600 unit at most.
Same here people don't like them like being caught on a moped or in a Kia!I always thought the 8 1/4 is way under rated .....people used to throw them away for no good reason
Well that is what in was thinking but just goes to show the mentality of the GM guy trying to get rich in anything with a pentastarThey are not worth 2k to a road runner guy.... 8 3/4 axles were the standard axle for the B & E bodies and are a dime a dozen....
The 7.25 will do just fine unless you plan to pound on it. It'll last a lot longer than you think under normal usage. Should give you time to find something beefier. And you won't need a new driveshaft..
What I find funny is the people who swear the 741 case is too weak to run....it's actually stronger than a Ford 9 inchSame here people don't like them like being caught on a moped or in a Kia!
whoa - thinking with the other head - mark the day!!! LOLYou buy both the shim kit and the crush sleeve kit and then return what you dont use.
So if I'm reading this correctly, a 7.25 for a 73 Swinger is narrower than a 7.25 from a 69 Barracuda? This might help cant find the specs on the Durango right now.View attachment 1714953089

They should be the same but it will look narrower in the barracuda because the barracuda 1/4 panels flair out like a duster body giving more tire roomSo if I'm reading this correctly, a 7.25 for a 73 Swinger is narrower than a 7.25 from a 69 Barracuda?
Looks like it. You have to watch the housings one has a offset pinion for 2.45 and higher the other is centered for 2.56 and lower. We beat the heck out of this in that thread with pics. You can get the 8.25 2.45 trackloks cheap but will not fit into the carrier with the centered pinion. The desireable ones.So if I'm reading this correctly, a 7.25 for a 73 Swinger is narrower than a 7.25 from a 69 Barracuda?

I didn't measure when i did the swap (to get bbp). The swinger axle in the cuda set the rears inboard quite a bit compared to how it was stock. Tires actually rub the wheelwells when really articulated. I chocked it up to differences in the wheel backspacing (which i didnt measure either). Interesting stuff. May have to get out the tape measure..They should be the same but it will look narrower in the barracuda because the barracuda 1/4 panels flair out like a duster body giving more tire room
Hey whats up today gang?
I need to see what's in the Dart Sport. Was a 340 car. Maybe it's got a 355 gear in it...Looks like it. Karl, u up in Chicago area?Car show at the O'hare Hooters today...
I'm not sure if I'm going yet. My uncle was supposed to get back from AZ last night. It would be cool to get his Roadrunner there and get Eddie and his brother to bring their Roadrunner and Dart so there will be at least 3 Mopars there....
