Stop in for a cup of coffee

Cali car. Not bad for the price. All engines fit. 1965 Plymouth belvedere ii

I used to be interested in the No Title listings, but I recently sold a '95 F150 (a parts truck) to a guy in Wisconsin who flips vehicles for a living, and he said the hoops you have to jump through are many (and I'm thinking, "Not a problem..."). But then he explained how, in the State of Minnesota, even if you've jumped through all of the hoops, have done your homework, and after 3 (or maybe it was 5?) years, you've managed to get a valid Title...even then, a previous owner can make a claim on the car if they can show adequate proof that the vehicle was stolen from them. And 9 times outta 10 the State will yank the car outta "your" hands and give it back to that person!

One thing he said that brought it home for me: Imagine having a car like this, that you've restored, at a Show, and then someone walks up and says, "Hey! That's my old car!". He said he's seen it happen twice.

REALLY glad I bumped into this guy!

It would be fun but I sure don't like the rules and politics involved. What is the route in 26?
What rules? What politics?

You only get caught up in “rules and politics “ if you buy the prepaid packages. You need no tickets to get in the venues. And they can’t stop you from following along on the route.

And this year…. As I predicted, they are doing Route 66. Though it’s just Illinois Missouri Kansas and into Oklahoma so not the full Route 66

After Tim's Ride no way I will do it!
Tim got screwed by a power hungry gate guard.

That said, I don’t advise anyone to buy the packages . They’re not worth it. It’s faster to park in open parking, and costs nothing to do the tour. But gas and time. Pick your own hotels of course will save a ton

I thought registering was the only way.

Oh hell no. Only if you want the goody bags guaranteed. The year I did it with Tim, after he bailed, I got his passes all stamped and collected his goodies for him.

Then about an hour before the venue at the final city , they auction off the remaining stacks of unclaimed goodies. I paid 5 bucks for a goody bag that had a window sticker for long haulers in it. Then some lady gave her long hauler plaque to my son. A few weeks later, I bought a second plaque off eBay for 30 bucks.

If I’d purchased the package, it was like 400 bucks.

But I’m cheap. We stayed at state parks for 30-60 a night, camping. One night in a lodge. There were a bunch of hot rodders doing that too.

In short, no, you don’t need any special tickets or packages to tag along and can acquire the goodies later on if you wanted. I just wanted to be on the road with hundreds of ground pounding, Dino blood sucking hotrods.

I'm sure you know this area well Alex.
On the other hand Fred there was a Boy Scout camping trip to the Colorado River just up river a ways from where you are now. We stopped in Needles Ca. at midnight for gas before we got to the campsite. The big thermometer above the door at the station said 110°. My Dad was working on the construction of I 40 and he was back in Barstow for the weekend. I told him about that thermometer next time I saw him the next weekend. "You should have seen it at 3:00 that day. It was 126°"

Yup

125° was our cutoff because of the operating range of some of our safety equipment. Had that cause us to close it out on a few occasions.

Usually the winds in the summer is what shut things down before the temperature got high enough. Usually worked 03:00 to around noon.

So, first thing was fire up diesel heater. Battery dead, hook up charger, charger died. Has a failed circuit breaker. Stuffed in a 50 amp one. Then finished up boost point, replaced faulty hourmeter, had a new one in my parts stash from 15 years ago. Checked engine oil

dirty and gassy. Thats terrible for a new engine, but likely lots of cold starts and no warmups. Its good to go now. Waiting on some hydraulic parts then i can drain the veggie oil out. And no drain plug, Fargin Bastiges!

Trying to get the RV ready for the long trip back to Washington. This was on the driver's seat. I'm taking all my brothers hats and will proudly wear this one but will take the Viet Nam emblems off because I wasn't there. Tear jerker for sure.
