Stop in for a cup of coffee

Just to Bombay for a refuel when I was in the Navy. I did like Nepal, really neat culture and it was beautiful. I forgot the name of the town, did a one day tour of old temple sites.

I think teens had forged cranks through 1972. There's a good chance it is forged.

the one thing I miss about india is the humidity and the greenery and flowers that grow. Here in Colorado it was hard to get used the dryness.

I wouldn't have it that humid here if I could because I like the rust free cars but the Colorado flowers and green will never match

yea I was hearing something about "302" heads with a swirlport or something.

it seems like the downside of a 318 is a small chamber head but if you put a 340/360 head wouldn't that kill the compression with a much bigger CC chamber.

just curious because if I am going to work with a 318 I want to know everything I can ascertain about it, up to now I am pretty much in the dark about small blocks but I have learned with most everything else mopar that it either is or it isn't. ......So small block 101 is in session :D

As far as stock 318's go, the early 67-69 probably have the forged cranks and abouthighest compression stock.

They changed the pistons in 71 to be flat top only without the four eyebrows that the early ones had.

Then compression drop in 72 and slightly smaller cam.

I have a spread sheet on the mopar engine specs where you can compare cam and compression specs. I can send it to you when I get back from my road trip. I looked up each year and engine size from 65 to 74 and put it in an excel spread sheet, but I'm not done debugging it yet....

I used a stock 72 318 block and crank, used TRW 10.5 pistons and then put 360 heads, 69 340 intake, 340 auto cam, double roller timing chain, and dual exhaust, and Holley 600 vac secondary. It ended up at 9.2 compression, and as someone stated, it was basically a stock 318 with a 3.91 bore.... I rebuilt it twice and ran it up to 500,000 miles on the stock 72 318 crank and bore.... lt's plenty robust for daily driving and a little more...

That stock 318 base engine is a great engine. Nothing wrong with it, and it can be "tweaked" if you need more power....

Anyhow, I'm now getting behind schedule. I'll catch you all on the flip side after my road trip.....

My best friend growing up was from India and his grandma was a riot, Severe culture shock living in the US also complained about the weather in NY.

you probably didn't catch early on....but I was born and raised there till I was around 15. The cars there are no good though :???: cant even get anything near as cool as a slant six

Yep, the 302's are a efficient head with it's closed chamber. They are almost identical to the 273 heads chamber wise with bigger ports.

I caught that. Ever go back and visit? In my short visit I do not think I saw a car, maybe a few trucks and a million two wheelers of various sizes.

ok, I get it .....you want a bigger port smaller chamber ?

seems like the bigger chamber is great for air flow but only if you have some serious compression.

Kinda like the effect of 452s on a 383 :???:

since I started in with mopars I have always had big blocks and slant sixes never too much small block stuff so I am real familiar with big blocks and to a degree slanty stuff but small blocks are different. ....I am not sure what manifolds and all that kind of thing to use with small blocks

yes but I am trying to do so less and less. depends what city you see for cars ...right now Delhi is the leader in car traffic and Kolkata still has a lot of older cars in circulation which is where the pic above is

Here's a couple shots of small block heads. The open chamber is a X head and the closed chamber head is a 302 casting. If you replace a open chamber head with a 302 you will gain at least a half point of compression.

4 cups into the morning, it started at about 6:30AM. Had another late night last night. screwed around here until about midnight, and then my neighbor knocked on the door. His heat had gone out and he wanted to know if he could get some of my fire wood for his his bedroom fire place. I told him he could have all he needed, but asked why not just come and spend the night at our house. We have two empty bed rooms and they were very welcome to them.

He and I spent about a hour or so in his basement, and it looked as though his blower motor bought the farm.

His wife went to my house about 12:30 this morning, and once he and I had things narrowed down to what was wrong, he called and arranged for an emergency repair. He told them that he could wait until morning.
At that point we headed back to my place, across the lawn. We sat around until about 2AM just chatting and making a pretty good dent in a bottle of Black Label.

The repair service got to his house about 8:30 this morning. He and I went over to meet the service man, and we lit a fire in the living room fire place and sat around while they diagnosed the problem. The good news is it isn't the motor, it's a relay for the motor, and the technician has a replacement on his truck.

Our wives are in my living room still, and we had a wonderful visit with them, and a great breakfast. He called his wife a few minutes ago and let her know that the heat is working again. The house should be warmed up in a few minutes.

I hate that he and his wife had to deal with that, but, it was really a nice nice visitation, while they were here.

is there a such thing as an exhaust too big for a small block ....is 2.5 inch exhaust system a good idea or smaller ....like 2 inch dual ?

I recently realized my days of traveling are over. I saw a lot of places and was exposed to many cultures. Kind of pissed the wife off because our plan was to travel to all the places she wanted to. I told her grab the kid and go, but it would not be the same for her I guess. Probably a good thing a 33 tuuurrd st. Born and raised New Yorker in a foreign land, could turn out really bad. Hell you should have seen her when we were in Hawaii! It was culture shock for her being a Haole!

The U.S.A. has the best cars anyway........and the best BBQ beef places. I mean what fun is any country where you cant get an order of taters at sonic and go to Wal-Mart in the middle of the night just because your bored. :D:D

2 1/4 is a good size for a stocker. 2 1/2 is good for a warmed over engine. I never liked 2". I don't like the sound.

I have 2.5 going on a stock 383 ....I am thinking now I should have gone 3 inch for a BB but its stock 70 specs.........to be seen how it will turn out LOL

It should work fine!

My best friend growing up was from India and his grandma was a riot, Severe culture shock living in the US also complained about the weather in NY.

my cousin told me the eastern part of the US is really different than the west. I have only been to Texas, New Mexico very edge of Arizona and just over the Colorado/Wyoming border. and obviously I live in Colorado. But she was in Boston and is going to college in St. Louis and she says its really different and people talk different in Boston......interesting to say the least.

Is that the summit kit?

Sure is ...you would think I would have it assembled by now but I keep getting off track and on other projects. #-o

I lost my New York dialect. My wife still has hers and she picked up the accents and terms from places she lived. When we left Hawaii after 12 yrs I could understand her but almost nobody else could. She ran a nursing agency in Hilo which is kind of the west Virginia of HI. She spoke Hawaiian pigeon with a new York twang and all the Hi, Japanese and Pilipino slang and a few Korean phrases thrown in for good measure. Now we are in Centrural PA and she is starting to get a little Penn Dutch thrown in. I should record it.

I have the summit kit sitting in the shop. I was pleasantly surprised of the quality of it except the clamps.

Morning all!
Rani I have a 318 in my dart it has been warmed over some bored out 30 over crank has been turned down 10,000 stock bottom end fairly radical cam, stock 318 heads that have had some port work. High rise manifold with a holley 670 double pumper on top.

Makes pretty good power but really gets with it after about 3200 rpm's also has 2 1/2" exaust hooked to flow tech headers.

I do have a 360 that is going there someday, but that's a ways down the road.

Good morning. Just finishing the big thermal mug & reading what you guys and gal are posting. Frankie's impromptu sleepover makes me wish for neighbors like that; where I live people are friendly but keep to themselves.

Recovering from the Valentine's Day shift. It was demanding but I was lucky to have laid-back customers. The kitchen got behind; one lady in the bar got so angry at her waiter she was actually crying! Really lady, crying?? She works for the hotel too. Some people...

Today's options are: check out a wildlife exhibition at a park downtown, wind-chill in the 20's, OR stay at home with a good book and my feet up.

Morning, I just had to run out to the bin and get some coal for the stove and my hand stuck to the shovel! Good day to chat here! Way to cold out.
