and a very good guess! 304, 345 and 392 were pretty much the available choices..

Early Scouts had 2 4 cylinder engines available. A 152 which was 1/2 of a 304 and a 196 which was 1/2 of a 392. There were forced induction models too. They were kinda like Mopar's 3.9 v6 being 6 cylinders of a 318 and of course our V10.

The 4 bangers are truly 1/2 of a v8. nearly all the parts interchange. they're pretty cool..

I grew up on the farm and we had a 55 R110. My uncle always bought IH pick ups and I had a IH collector on my tool route. He has 40 or so tractors and 4 or 5 early Scouts.
