and a very good guess! 304, 345 and 392 were pretty much the available choices..
Early Scouts had 2 4 cylinder engines available. A 152 which was 1/2 of a 304 and a 196 which was 1/2 of a 392. There were forced induction models too. They were kinda like Mopar's 3.9 v6 being 6 cylinders of a 318 and of course our V10.

The 4 bangers are truly 1/2 of a v8. nearly all the parts interchange. they're pretty cool..
 

IH started building trucks in 1907. They built many medium and heavy trucks as well as Scouts (like a Jeep) Travelalls' (like a Suburban) and pick up's.
