Stop in for a cup of coffee

morning everyone ....supposed to be 55 today and it was beautiful yesterday.

Such a nice day yesterday and I ended up fiddling with a ford tortoise all day.

Came in running rough and on the road test it had a bog and sputter right before it would downshift so the owner thought transmission and on these newer cars, any transmissions instructor will tell you to make sure the engine is running right before you even look at the trans. (heard that a million times in class) Sure enough scan tool says mis-fire on cylinder number 6 so I was thinking its a coil pack because cylinder had its own. So because number six is in the front (thankfully because upper intake has to be removed to get the back ones) I swapped the number six coil pack with number two and reset the codes ....I was sure that it would move and the scanner would now say mis-fire on number two.

No such luck.....now it has a code for something EGR related (which was not there before) but the mis-fire is gone and its running straight ....WTH is that all about !!!! :banghead::banghead:

Mike I just ran across a tool the other day that is for cleaning up spark plug threads. It seemed crazy in price to me but I can see it save a lot of time. A reverse thread tap I think it was called. You stick it past the thread and then tighten it and the tap part is split in two expands to the thread and you reverse it out of the hole and all the shavings come out with it. Ever see one?

I had something similar with the firechicken after changing the trans out. The throttle body, one coil pack, a set of wires and it turned out to be a clogged cat. I still hate that car and now the drivers window motor is skipping really bad so that needs a changing.

I am starting to think that the solution is to take the dash cluster apart and remove the little light bulb for the "check engine" indicator. No light, no problem :D:D:D

It probably won't run without it. I think it's part of the circuit.

No it will just throw another code somewhere.

Broken wire in the door harness? GM had a lot of cheap switches back then too.

We used to sell them 10 years ago. They did work. I don't know the manufacturer though.

at least the internet can be such a wonderful tool ....I am going to have a another wrestling match with it today, armed with info from a ferd website.

Felt unwholesome to go on a non-mopar website asking questions :???:

No for sure the gear is stripped, you can feel and hear it when it tries to go down. I think Marilyn tried to put it down when the felts were iced up. I got a prime choice one in the mail yesterday and it surprised me it was less than 40 for the whole regulator/motor assy. If you saw the gear it is that cheap nylon stuff.

I just saw it somewhere on the web for around 120. I thought that was pricy. I know I could have used one a few years ago.
