My extra hood is too far gone to weld to, sheet metal is too thin. Underside rust. Sooo, not going that direction. It does look like it would work tho. Not willing to cut up my good hood to find out.

Yep, that's one of my pet peeves too. You should never see body color through the grille...
I never gave it much thought. My 66 is body color under there. I might have to rethink the paint scheme.....

I agree on light colors.
You mentioned brown, wbich is basically what my Cinnamon is. It does look dark behind the grille and as said, I'm pretty sure it was never anything but body color.

Yes, that is how they are sprayed from the factory like TMM mentioned.

It changed a bit starting around 1972 when the grilles became more 3 dimensional plastic as opposed to the flat stamped steel making the visibility of the color through the grille less. Then the 'blackout' spray was only used on lighter colors and eventually phased out. When it happened depended on model, trim, color and manufacturing line on which the car was made.

I blacked mine out from the core support forward, both fore and aft. Then redid the grille with black accents.

so I braved the snow ....dang we got a blizzard here.
I went out to exchange some jeans I got for Christmas because they didn't fit right. while I was out, I went into hobby lobby and me and my friend were like the only two people there, the parking lot was totally empty but the snow was also starting to really pick up which may be the reason for the low population out. lol
so the manager in hobby lobby tells me and my friend that we are brave to be out in this storm. He offered us coupons and a warm smile.
With the coupons, made the price of hobby items drop quite a bit......almost half price, so I couldn't help myself.
I bought an N scale set.
I plan to build the N-scale in my bedroom which is a bit limited space, and the H.O. scale in the basement, where I have a lot of room.

this is my first experience with N scale and dang they are little guys ....like really tiny

only thing is that when I set up the N-scale track and tried to run the train for the first time out of the box .....the light came on but it didn't run ....didn't budge a inch or even make a noise like it was trying to do anything.
So rather than take it back (have to wait till next week) and make an *** stink out of it ... I popped the body shell off and took it apart to find a motor contact not making contact to the frame as it should ....so I gently bent the tab out and put it back together. Now it works fine and no problem.
