Well, in this case it has me in a dilemma. A company wants me do consulting for them but it's a conflict of interest with another company I consult for, so I told them I couldn't do it and why.
Now they are coming back desperate and applying pressure everyway they can to get me to change my mind. Their price keeps going up...but it's an ethical issue for me to do it. I don't like turning down business, but accepting big money to compromise ethics is a dangerous path, and one I am not going to take.
It all just puts me in an awkward place of having to refuse the work and have them potentially bad mouth my reputation or compromise the ethics and risk damaging my reputation even more.
I'm not happy being placed in this position. But in a weird way, I'm happy that my skills are this much in demand.
