You can do it the same way with a empty cartridge in the gun if the plunger has rubber on it, did that a few times.
Sadly this gun just has a tin disc, no rubber

It's one of those we got at a cheap tool tent sale years ago as a spare. Ended up being the primary after the other one got ran over by the combine, never got a new one so I need one

Eventhe cheapies will usually pump. Just not as much grease per shot and not as much force to blow out a clog. If the plunger doesnt seal it can still work, just get a lot of grease back in the spring. Then it comes out the end next time you pull the punger out. Another prob with cheap s thin barrel metal means shitty threads.

Look online instead of running all over the place, think my big one is a Sears from the 80's prob, never failed yet. Did change the metal pipe to a flexible hose, much easier to use.
