Racin' Go Karts on asphalt sprint tracks was so much fun. You learn real fast that if you got in too fast and have to brake in the middle of the corner you're goin' for an unexpected weed inspection tour .

My Dad was an enlisted man in the USAF, when I was a kid he used to race go karts. This was in the early sixties..They raced on set up courses on the AFB tarmac, sometimes. I remember he race karts with twin Mc Culloch engines. I have some of his trophies, and his old racing helmet

One of the guys in the club had dual 135s (20hp each). Scarey fast. 40 horse and only weighing 360 lbs you cover a lot of ground in a big hurry. He could actually smoke the tires. We used to do a "handicap" class for the karts that wanted to race but wouldn't fit in any of the classes. Drivers go out and qualify and we had a little chart to set the handicaps. Slowest guy starts on the start/finish line, faster guys scattered about the track according to their times. Theoretically everybody finishes at the same time. All about the fun Babyyyy.

I think it would be Kool if I could build my 65 Belvedere for Autocross/street use...
You're also close to Bluecrab and Fedex stadiums. Washington DC Region has really good autocross events and 'school'. Not sure where they are currently holding the schools, but I really liked their approach. 1 is basics, 2 is drills, 3 is practice as much as want and the course is reversed at mid day.

Go and enjoy. Only pressure is your own. :)
Its all SCCA. So these days that means you'll have to join to play (insurance rules).
Evolution driving schools are also a good time. If your interested, we can check the 2019 schedule to see if they'll be doing a Phase 1 or 2 in WDCR region. The first one I went to another 'student' had an ex cop car, and he himself was an Allentown P.O. building a Chevelle.

My dad and buddies raced SCCA D production a Datsun 2000 Roadster. Road Atlanta winner by the way. So at some point and I do not remember my age I got to do a victory lap and hold flag. I was perched on the counter weights and clinging to roll bar for dear life. The driver laughing like a hyena tossing me all over the car. We were at Brownsburg in Indiana. I had to fetch a lot of beers and wash a lot of parts for that ride! Been racing ever since, heck I even have my Pro Bench card! Hah!

I was hunting SCTA stuff and found this along with other interesting photos

Funny I did same thing, started searching back thinking about the Datsun, very long story short Dads buddy won national championship with Datsun so earned a ride/sponsorship with Porsche. Who had a reunion out in calif this year. Here is a pix of some classic old race cars at the track. Our old car made it one lap! Present owner has since hired a new driver!
