Stop in for a cup of coffee

My Step Dad grew up in Bridgeport (IIRC) and told the story of Franky Bobak bringing free sausage sample plates into the bars they hung out in, to get the name and word out. All employees spoke in Polish the whole time also. I was never there to witness and experience it.

There used to be lots of Polish and Ukranian in the neighborhood near Midway Airport, now it's predominantly hispanic...

My friends from jr high and high school's dad used to run the hardware store down the street from Midway off 63rd st....

The snow moving is done here. I might go to the Downing House and get that done this afternoon. It's kind of a turd because there's not a good place to blow the snow on half the driveway. The neighbor's drive is just a few feet away on the left side.

used to go to the resale shop right before the RR tracks on the west side of Midway and get Hostess Twinkies. just the other side of the track was a business that alumi-coated my first set of headers

Evening all, got up to 32 today so got some things done in the shop. Put some stuff away from the swap meet and picked at my D150 some.

I know there are a few here that do the cooking but I don't think I signed on for this . I make my wife lunch for her to take to work. Lunch for me (if I eat it) Lunch for Lauren, supper for Lauren and I, and then for the wife when she gets home at 8 pm. I don't leave the frickin' kitchen. Rant over.

29 years ago today, after sweating and being nervous all day, I stopped by my then girlfriend's house and asked her to marry me. Today, we are celebrating that anniversary.
( I figured that asking on the 13th would mean that eventually, a celebration would take place on a Friday...he-he-he )
Happy Anniversary!
We take pride in our dirty minds... :D

I saw it before I read the words
Those are paczkis (pronounced punch-key)...

They are a Polish tradition... They eat them on "Fat Tuesday"...

Huge tradition in Detroit because there is a large Polish population in Hamtramck... I wasn't far from there and Paczkis were delicious.... Jelly or cream filled doughnuts, about 1200 calories each, but really good...

There's a Polish Deli near me also... Known for their fresh home made sausages made fresh every day... They have every kind of sausage you can think of and even some you can't... Llithuanian , Polish, Italian in mild or spicy, wedding sausage, smoked, some pre-cooked, some cook yourself...

They also bake fresh rolls... If you get there at the right time the rolls are still hot from the oven when you take them out of the bin....

They also sell other deli meats, like a slab of bacon cooked with onions on top, you slice yourself...

Their stuff is so fresh... Sometimes that same day... I like to go there in the summer when my farm stand is open, buy some mild and hot raw Italian Sausage, some fresh rolls, then go to the local farm stand and buy fresh onions and green peppers... Take them all home and bake the sausages, and fry the peppers and onions and make me fresh sandwiches with some mustard... Everything in the sandwich is less than 24 hours fresh...

They are really good, look they have 4 1/2 star rating with 642 reviews...

The cooked rib bacon is what I was talking about, it's soooo good...

I love that place, glad is close by...
Those delis are the best. You know you are getting a good product.
Don't forget, tomorrow is Valentines Day. Don't forget your sweetie. Sometimes it looks like they don't appreciate it but you'll hear about it for years to come if you don't.  :BangHead::BangHead:
Mine get spoiled with a fancy dinner and dessert. Cooked at home.
Marie is excited - the forecast for V day is 7" (of snow)...
That lasts all of 30 seconds

Well Mike tell your family they should be glad they have a good cook in the house and they should be thanking you for that. Could be eating my cooking of burnt whatever it was and have a charcoal taste in their mouth.
