After a visit to a arboretum outside of town, we back to a AAA service center where the lady had left her Ranger for inspection. The service manager had short list of items needing repair that didn't match up with what I thought was on the truck. A quick look underneath showed it was BS. She said it needed new strut and its a coil and leaf suspension. It was missing a boot on a joint but the joint was still serviceable.
 
Anyone use a home nickle plating kit? @halifaxhops
Would like to make these look a little better. Scratched up, and when trying to get the dirt out of it revealed some copper plating.

Had a charger, windows were foging up inside. I couldn’t figure it out and Dodge dealership said inside cab filter. I bought one and WTF! There was no way to get at it. Turns out the cab filter was for cars with the Hemi only. Mine was a 6 cly

Had problems with taking my semi into truck shops for an oil change and they would show me an air filter that was covered in dust and said they need to change it. Funny I just changed it myself and the filter they said was the one out of my semi didn't even look like the right one.

I have been doing more, but then pay for it big time. I was told I have to keep moving and doing things, stopping if it hurts. Been really painful the last 2 days, not sure why. I hope starting PT it will loosen up. Driving my truck is terrible. I do ok on the 2 lane highway. But freeway. Forget it. Only if absolutely necessary.

Send them over if you want nickel on them. Use mine a lot so it is usually set up.
 
I'm going to make a stop at Moon Equipment in the coming future. I want to know how much that clear coat they put on their Discs has changed the appearance of them. Shiny aluminum may not be part of the hot rod vision. I called them in the recent past and asked about it and they said the original brushed finish was still available at special request. The discs have to be pulled out of the production line before they hit the clear coat line :eek: :lol:

I've done some nickel plating on small jukebox parts, but that was about 8-9 years ago. Don't recall offhand how to do it (I got my info off Youtube), but I'm pretty sure I still have some small nickel sheets/pieces that I purchased online.

Best advice I can offer right now: Start out with something sacrificial, as there is a learning curve.

that is amazing! I'm thinking of how hard these people work for probably pennies and the conditions they work in. no gloves, masks (for the most part), what they are breathing day in and day out. some lathe work looks like it is set and runs by itself and in other frames you can see the guys hand in a reflection turning the dial. thanks for posting!

Talk to the customers, schedule the work, Run cars in and out to keep the shop full and the tech's busy. I did sell service but we (service manager and I) didn't sell what wasn't needed. Back then we would do cooling flush, wheel bearing repack, transmission service, and engine tune every 25,000 miles. We had a lot of happy customers that went on trouble free vacations across the country. Tire rotation and alignment as needed. I am not a believer in rotation at every oil change. There is over 60,000 on the wife's Envision with the original tires that have never been rotated. No uneven wear and it is a all wheel drive. It's time for a new set before winter though.

Thank-you for being an honest service advisor. quite a line between "shop needs to make money" and treat people fairly. I have a friend who has been doing that for twenty plus years. tells his mechanics "I'll sell anything you tell me the car needs, but, if I see it doesn't need something, I'm done with you". guess that's why he seems to never get time off or able to retire, good for business and repeat customers.
