Interesting looking back at old photos it was about the same time of year back in 2018 I started restoring the Scamp and it's first time out of the garage and it's first drive was 2020 the same time the airplane came out of the garage.

Thanks for posting both of those videos! So many kits pictured I remember having. And yes, those multi-piece bodies were a pain to assemble-Revell 57 Ford wagon. I would go down the street from Grandma and grandpa's house in Chicago to Joe's paper and tobacco shop. He was one side sitting and all the models were on the other side. He would get tired of walking over there to get models for me. He'd say "get them yourself but don't break anything". One time, I came home with a grocery bag of 63 AMT Buick 225 and Pontiac Bonneville convertible models. Still charged the box price of $1.49. Think the last one I sold went for $25. Also got some of those early "saggy" cars from him, an Edsel hardtop and convertible. Paid $1 each. He had them sitting on the radiator (steam heat). After having them from grade school into college age, sold the pair for $75. The history explains alot of why kits seemed good in some years and went to poop in a hand basket other years. AutoWorld catalog from Scranton,PA was the holy grail for kits and paint. Have their catalog now but out of Indiana. (shipping is good and quick). Sorry to ramble on, I really enjoyed the stories!

I don't know how many people here on this thread built models as youngsters, Or even adults. In the beginning I built airplanes mostly because my father was in the US Air Force but I moved on to building some boats and then on to cars. And I do know that by building models as a young man , I gained some assembly and mechanical knowledge, thus giving me an edge when it came to disassembling and reassembling an automobile or an engine or any automotive components for that matter..

I got a late start in the car hobby but I build model cars now.

I got started early on cars. I rebuilt the engine in my father's 64 MG1100. 1100cc 4cyl engine transverse mounted, 4-speed transmission. Did it when I was 15 years old. Yes, it ran..
