Tale of two 90's ?

In finalizing my build, I came across two 90* oil filter adapters. One has a ~3 inch tube that slides deeper into the filter apparently. Does anyone know what year this would have came from? Do one of these styles have an advantage over the other for any reason?

Isn't the tube a slant 6 thing?

My understanding of that part is that it's just an anti-syphon/backflow valve so the oil stays in the filter and doesn't flow back into the pan. Most applications don't have that problem, but, some with the filter mounted up side down do.
