Testing Compressor or replace?

I don’t know the year of the RV2 on my 72 dart. It appears to be original. It is on the engine but, not hooked up now hoses, only belts. The clutch operates smoothly when engaged and turns ok.. How can I check compressor before putting the system back together, pulling a vacuum, filling etc? Or should I rebuild or replace. Parts store has a remanufactured for $150.

I donooo............if the system (or the compressor) was pretty well sealed up, IE someone didn't just cut the hoses and let every bug, pepple, or bunch 'o sand into the hoses, it might just be OK

You might want to AT LEAST replace the shaft seal. Consult your shop manual, or if you don't have one you can download one:
