The Mighty 318 Part II ….. LOL

I'm not doing yur homework for you.
I already did theses combos, no print-outs, no graphs, just real-world results.
Your made up scenarios isn't real world, same with your V/P bullshit.
Plus dyno's are real world evidence, doesn't mean there isn't more to it but better than some dudes opinion. I put them there not for you cause your allergic to new info you spit out the same novel ever since I've known ya. There're there for the OP to see for himself how a stock 2bbl 360 makes no sense.

I've had mild 318's with cam 4bbl etc.. and most here have had same, 318willrun car has prove you wrong.

To tell someone to swap in a stock 2bbl 360 with manifolds when looking for a bit of performance and rpm over doing a basic hop up to a 318 that's already in the car is ridiculous.

Well at least after 10 years AJ now allows a 4 bbl be put on a 318 before it was just exhaust and tune. Baby Steps :)

600-670 vac sec 4 barrel, performer intake, 360 heads, small roller cam 110 or 108 lobe separation, headers, upgrade axle eventually in the near future

I’d add mill some off the heads to at least maintain cr.

Just got back from out of town.

Thanks guys I really appreciate all the info. Plenty here to make my choices. The biggest choice I see is whether to swap out the heads. 4bbl, cam, headers, ignition

If I decide to swap the heads for 360s how much should I mill off?

I bet stock 360 heads would gain at least 30 hp over stock 318 heads if not more. 318 heads are basically 273 heads which even for a 273 they limit power.

I've heard 0.040" is enough but I'd double check that plus it depends on what head gasket thickness you run.

40 is the generally accepted number to mill that is still within the range to generally not need to mill the intake accordingly.

usually the gaskets will take up still in that range.

Delta - thanks for all the links. I’ve read about half and will come back for the rest.

273 - I like the Hot Rod article. I think this will be my template due to the tested results, right around my goal.

Chill - the thread to which I refer is the first one in Deltas links.

One final thought - the car in question has a 7 1/4 rear end with 3.23 gears (don’t think it’s a sure grip). I am aware this is a limiting factor but prolly ok in the 282-300 hp range of The Hot Rod article?
Nope. It just won't take the abuse, especially as a 1 legged. Start looking for either a sure trip for yours (hard to find) or an 8.25 and there are other options.

Feb 2011 Popular Hot Rodding; Clark Hinkle’s 318 in the 2010 Engine Masters Challenge. 451HP at 6300 with Magnum Heads (no doubt ported by Clark)

The competition was judged on a streetable average power versus highest output; hence the two plane and milder cam.
