So I stopped by Lowe's in a feeble attempt to find a few 1/4" shaft stones for a die grinder. !!!! WRONG !!!

On "the way past" I see an obvious -we -want -to -catch -your -eye display of combo wrenches "on sale".

These are combination wrenches from 3/8 through I guess 3/4" on sale

BUT THEY ARE MARKED BOTH FRACTIONAL and METRIC !!!!!

Now most of you that's wrenched anything know that "sometimes" you can cheat and use 1/2 for 13mm, 9/16 for 14 mm and a few other sizes

BUT there is NO substitute for 10mm !!!!!! ! ! ! ! ! ! and the 3/8???? wrench !!??!?!?!??!? was ?!??!?!??! marked ?!?!??!?! 3/8 and 10 mm !!!!!!!!

Here's a photo I found on the www

The sockets in my Northern 3/4" drive ratchet set are marked that way too.

3/8 and 10mm are two of the closest. Closer than 1/2 is to anything metric.
Get a calculator to play with, . any metric divided by 25.4
In a way it sort of makes sense to put both on wrenches for the novice. I started to say "for the carpenter". LOL Inside joke in memory of cousin Jack.

I have a set of impact sockets that has the ones that are useable labeled that way, but it also has single marked sockets for the ones they figured weren't close enough.

Good choice not to buy them. I won't have a spline drive on my truck. Lost sales for me but I'm not a believer. toolmanmike

Maybe that's why they were on sale.
Wacky idea.
The cursed 10mm.
I'm trying desperately not to buy any tools I don't have to have if they are made in China.
Went to Lowe's a couple of months ago to get a "back up" 4 1/2 inch grinder. My made in the USA Dewalt is one of the most used tools I have and I was tired of swapping between a brush and wheel on projects.
EVERY stinking grinder they had including Dewalt is now made in China.
I didn't get one.
Sorry, got somewhat off topic.

Yeh,,,,,,,, and the reason I went there was to find some 1/4 shaft stones for a die grinder. Only ones they have now are HEX shaft (quick connect) "so you can chuck into a drill."

I informed the clerk that "**** you can chuck a ROUND shaft in a drill, too!!!!"

I did find 3 stones at HD

We have an independent, here, "Coeur d Alene Power Tool" which I believe is a sub of "Spokane Power Tool." They used to have all kinds of good stuff.

I'm sure HD and Lowe's has taken their toll. They have only a few import stones, a few ("not the size I need") quality stones and some VERY expensive carbide? burrs.
